Hi Richard
My wife and I love the Dunnellon area. We are about 45 minutes from Ocala. We live in an area called Rainbow Lakes Estates, about 6 miles from the city of Dunnellon. It is out in the...
I do appreciate it. I moved from Texas and was raised in WV so I know about funny shaped states. :)
journeybear - :)) I didn't think the Keys would be a hot bed of bluegrass. Boxes are mostly unpacked. Can't wait to get the instruments out and get back to it.
LucyL - We are not far from Orlando. Looks kinda far from here, but thanks.
lenf12 - Sure didn't expect the cold when we moved. Glad it is over.
We certainly are in a great place. We have already been to Rainbow Springs State Park. It is lovely. I bought a family pass to the state parks. We will be exploring this region a lot.
Thanks. I liked their FB page to keep up with it.
That's great. I moving the week before Thanksgiving so I don't think I can make the Thanksgiving show. I will check for other events.
Thanks I will definitely check it out.
I will be moving to Dunnellon FL next week and would to meet up with some BG pickers once settled in. I am still new to the mandolin, but I have played BG rhythm guitar for years and I play a little...
I meet with two friends just about every week now. We took 3 months off when all the covid started but got back together a few weeks ago. No social distancing. We are all retired.
Thanks Rob. Just got your eBook and look forward to using it.
I had never heard of Butch Baldassari until your post. I love Travellers. Just downloaded from Amazon. Great album, thanks.
I understand what you are saying, Mark. You definitely HAVE to find out where the pain comes from. I know a good classical guitarist who taught himself, used bad left hand technique and now cannot...
I have been concerned about taking too much of the stuff over time. I need to get more info. Doc told me to take as needed after 2 weeks.
I went to a hand specialist today. He said I have arthritis in my left wrist and the base joint of my thumb.
Pretty much all I can do is manage the pain. I got two steroid shots and he wants me take...
Thanks Bill. I hope no surgery as well. I also hope I can still play mandolin while it heals. I just want a specialist to tell me what is wrong and if I
can still play while it is healing. Otherwise...
Went to a chiropractor a couple of weeks ago and he made an adjustment and said it should be ok in a couple of weeks.
No joy. Decided to make an appointment with a hand surgeon for next week. I...
Talked with Dennis via email on 5/15. He was very responsive but said he had been sick for a while.
I agree that it is most likely a jam thing. If you listen to the Bluegrass Album Band, you will find tunes they play
in the appropriate (at least, to me) speed.
I agree with you about speed, and yes, bluegrass players who can show speed usually do. It is
not limited to mandolin, banjo players are the worst (I am one of those too).
The good thing about...
IMHO, the only place that pain goes away with time is with calluses on your fingers.
Every teacher I have ever had (guitar/mandolin) stress that pain in playing is NOT GOOD. Find out what is...
Before I developed wrist/thumb pain I was practicing an hour a day. I have an instructor who determines what I practice
and the goals I work for each week. That helped a lot.
There should absolutely be no pain when playing. You need to develop good technique.
