Re: Tailpiece busted - is this normal?

The price and quality of these are all over the place but I generally go for the Prucha tailpieces sold by Greg Boyd.

    Re: Gotoh Replacement Tuner Buttons

You have two ways to go, maybe three.

You can replace the broken buttons.

You can replace all the buttons.

You can replace the tuners with real Gotoh's.

I'll send you a Personal Message.

    Re: Gotoh Replacement Tuner Buttons

It appears you have the Saga "Fake Gotoh" tuners. How many buttons are broken?
  5. Re: what glue to use on 70yo mando w/ previous repairs?

First, could you post a picture of the instrument and the repair? Not seeing either makes this guesswork a little harder. The glue to use depends on what was used to put it together in the first...

Just let me know what they measure out at.
  7. Re: Correct screws, to attach bracket to Gibson pickguard?

This site says they have the screws in nickel.
  8. Re: what size flathead screw for a 1920 F2 pickguard clamp

Or they could just buy them in nickel here. NFI and no experience with the seller.
  9. Re: Correct screws, to attach bracket to Gibson pickguard?

Take a look at this thread. Screws and the information regarding nickel plating.

Well, we know it wasn't you

If I remember correctly the restoration was done for the man's family. It meant something to them. I just can't seem to locate the thread.

    Re: Mildewed Instruments

Ozone on cases is fine and in my mind the best way but there are some problems with using it on the instruments if I recall correctly.

    Re: Guitar Center

FQMS changed when the founder Bill Sullivan passed away. His kids have managed to keep it open as far as I know but the shop isn't the same. I have no idea what happened at Janet Davis. I loved both...

    Re: Mildewed Instruments

People have dealt with it. I'm trying to find a thread where a luthier restored a guitar that was with it's owner in his car when he drowned in the car. There's a lot of information about killing...

You might want to grab the threaded posts as well just to make sure they are the same thread. At .75 a post it's not a huge investment.

I don't dislike the store at all, it is what it is. A large retailer of musical sundry. No different than any other chain store. Just like Home Depot they don't sell everything. You have a choice,...

Re: Where to buy armguard hardware

As has been stated you need viola chin rest hardware. The rest should be easy for someone familiar with woodworking.

A lot of people sell the clamps.

There are places that sell the thumb wheel sets. Bill James has them on his site:

  23. Re: Use of D'addario Humidpaks for mandolins

The packets are actually made by a company named Boveda. I have used them for the last few years with zero problems in my guitars, mandolin and mandola. Boveda makes a set of saddle bags that allow...
