Thank you all so much for the responses and insights. I notice that I can fret cleaner with other fingers, and it happens on the lower strings more than the higher ones. So I guess I need to develop...

It seems like the Eastmans have a better reputation on this forum from what research I did prior to buying a Gold Tone OM-800+. I'm happy with mine though, but I am pretty damn new to this.
