  2. Re: What does a mando set-up cost in your area?

I tend to steer clear of music stores for any work on an acoustic instrument. Historically, they have been amateurish. I prefer to go to an actual luthier. Fortunately, there are a couple within...

    Re: We Honor Your Service

I believe he's a member of "Country Current," the Navy's country and bluegrass band. They're really quite good. Check this out:

    Re: We Honor Your Service

I grew up believing military service was what you did, that it was a small price to pay for the blessing of living in this country. I still feel that way.

I was an Air Force medic back in the...

    Re: Is my MAS dead?

I don't think people understand the condition. MAS can sometimes go temporarily dormant but it's never cured. It's an idiopathic condition that can come on at any time. Geneticists believe it may...

Yeah, well, I'm an Auburn grad. I'm allowed to be unsympathetic, especially today. We're playing Ole Miss tomorrow.

  12. Re: what strings do you recommend for a rigel mando ?

I vote for the ones you put on that you like the best. The only recommendation I could make is use mandolin strings. The sound you're looking for, playability, cost, etc., are criteria I would...

Re: Naked Bridge Post Is Shredding My Palm

I used black tape to cover an extended post several years ago. It works just fine and you don't see it unless you're looking for it. The dark bridge and saddle and black tape work well together. ...

And who knows? You might need that extra length sometime. (Probably not. I'm just trying to help you justify it.)

Re: Naked Bridge Post Is Shredding My Palm

Another vote for duct tape. Actually, it's Gorilla tape but it's black and only an inch or so wide on the roll. A small strip cut to size aid laid over the post has worked for me for years.

    Re: Dunlop Primetone pick

I've been using Monster Grips for several years. They work great and don't wear out. They're small discs of silicon rubber with built-in tackiness that you can apply to one or both sides of a pick....

    Re: Mandolin ToneRite on guitar?

I used a mandolin Tone-Rite on my Blevins octave which is considerably larger (10" total length) than the Breedlove mandolins I usually play. I attached it between the bridge and tail piece. It...

Re: What instrument is the hardest? My experience

I don't believe I'm coordinated enough to play a pedal steel guitar.

(For what it's worth, the jury's still out on my mandolin playing ability, too,) ♫

Re: Getting mildew off a gig bag

I would never use a chlorine bleach. sblock is right. It will both damge and weaken the fabric as well as discolor it.

    Re: Cords on the ground

I appreciate your using the shorter cords and I try to do likewise but I always have longer cords available. I feel that the fewer connections (plugs), the better: less to go wrong.
