  1. Re: Article: Guess the Mandolin Dawg is Playing, Win $100 Gift Ce

That seems like the order that I dreamed about, can someone still win the competition if the results were part of a dream?
    -just to make it fair?
What sort of reality are we talking about here?

Re: someone beat me to this....

That’s quite courageous really, playing an Octave mandolin in public -and wearing very light body armour.
    Well done that man/woman!

    Re: German folk songs

I was just reading that Michael_Praetorius
was a very early (16th century) source of that wonderful old tune The Bear Dance, popular throughout Europe for a long time.
    There certainly were a lot...
  4. Re: What's the weirdest MUSICAL thing you've ever done?

    Sort of weird.

I was once in a French singing class -but it wasn’t that.
There were eleven or twelve of us, I wasn’t sure exactly, plus the instructor. She switched the lights off and told us to...

Re: Chords for Christmas Time's A-Comin'?

You can usually do a search for tunes by entering the name plus the word, ‘tab’.
    Here’s one result:

    Re: Jams in the UK

You could also look for guitarists, if they have a reasonable rhythm, or you play with a drummer/drum machine too.
They don’t have to be very experienced to have a lot of fun playing tunes.

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Is this one of the new ‘made for kids’ vids?

-this is not good music, I’ve reported it to YouTube.
Too late. I’ve watched it 3 times, and now I think I like it.
  10. Re: Forty progressive studies for the mandoline, Op. 50 - G Hucke

I would love one of these books in TAB, no, I just have to learn to read notation.
  11. Re: Any tips on this technique before breaking into a tune?

D-d,Dud; D-d,Dud; shifts emphasis as it becomes -ud; D-D, -ud; D-D, -ud
    Is that what you mean?
-but of course that’s accent on the rhythm, not so much chords.
  12. YouTube policy change, ‘Made for Kids’

Not sure what to make of this, any legal types here who can tell me if the mandolin is ‘made for kids’? And what that even means?
Do we have to sign in or sign out?
Will YouTube go to what it was...

    Re: Online percussive dance tutorials?

I heard a guy play guitar in Brazil one time. He had bare feet and loads of different drum sounds, flat foot for the ‘slap’, curved foot for a definite ‘tok’ sound. The heel, he said wasn’t working...

    Re: Pomeroy mandolins

Oh, they have some very nice looking instruments, though of course they probably don’t have a monopoly on narrow necked mandolins.
You’ll find loads of information here on MandolinCafe.
    Good luck,...

‘Pathetic?’ Not sure what you mean there Mike...
These 30 second vids you’ve done are great!

    Re: How to play harmony

Thanks David, Mark and Phil. That wasn’t such a good week for me! :)

To play fifths above, you just put a capo on the seventh fret and play the tune just the same way EXCEPT every time you get to...

    Re: Hector the Hero

    I love this tune.
I just tried it in A harmonic minor, just out of interest, to see what it was like.

I ‘m wondering if the tremolo should be played in groups of six, or four?

Really nice, thanks, would anyone one be kind enough to share the TAB?
Yes it is much harder to play a solid rhythm slow than fast.

Yes, but maybe not as smoothly. I’ve tried a bit on the octave mandolin, not easy(!) but easier on the small electric ukulele bass (in fifths). The problem is that the technique is close to doing...
