Happy Thanksgiving! (Turkey in the Straw)

Happy Thanksgiving y'all! Be careful while drinking your Sweet tea, or you might get some turkey in your straw....

    Thanks!
  3. Re: Shove that Pigs Foot a Little Farther into the Fire

Oh I've been playing Scruggs far longer than claw, and even a good while longer than mandolin (and a sight better, I might add) but I usually refrain from posting those videos out of respect for the...

Thanks y'all!! I wasn't expecting to receive such positive response on such a banjo-heavy post lol

This was a whole bunch of work to make, but super fun, and I'm really happy with how it turned out!!

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

Well I hadn't asked, but since you mention it, when cases advertise suspension, what does that mean?? I'm coming from mechanical backgrounds and suspension means springs and shock absorbers beneath...

Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

Oh yeah, I bet Girouard could get you that tone. Webers do often have it, but they also have fairly thick necks, which I personally find uncomfortable

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

I also play banjo, so I'm not worried about weight. I normally have five instruments with me at jams unless I also bring an accordion.... (guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and dobro) so it would be...

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

Well, probably not, people around here are very creative, but it's not into refinement. Things function but they aren't smooth about it.
Also, I relocated to TX in January (I'm in Africa visiting...

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

That is correct, but it will still be an upgrade. I've seen the bobelock wooden mandolin case, and it's much more sturdy than my current case.

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

Thanks y'all! I think I'm gonna buy the bobelock case. I've needed a case upgrade for both instruments, and this kills two birds with one stone!

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

Well, I've just been looking at bobelock and crossrock and that seems to be about the price they sell fiberglass for.

Thanks for the responses!! I'll look closely at the Bobelock case.
    Also, I...

Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

So recently I've been traveling a lot with my fiddle and mandolin, and on planes I usually carry one on and check the other inside a suitcase. Well, I just flew and had my mandolin in it's case...

Thanks y'all!! The fiddle was in fact made by Murray Kuun, (who happens to be a member here, which is how I met him) in South Africa!

I saw it, but didn't try it. I'm mainly interested in F hole mandolins right now, so I didn't play many ovals.

    Re: Education (trip to Carter's)

It was a rare treat for me as well!! I'm used to going into stores with few acoustic guitars, and fewer other acoustic instruments, so I was thrilled to have to decide which one to pick up lol
