    Re: yamaha mandolins

Something to look forward to! A Yamaha mandolin photo!

My FG-180 resides with our son in Brooklyn. I bought it with newspaper money in the early '70s.

    Needs a neck reset.

(I want to retire so badly! Had my papers in. Had my date set. Then COVID! Sure, I get to work from home! So, that's nice. Heck, my wife has been working from home for decades! Then she lost...

P-N-G, Wow! That's a sweet mandolin! I'm also drawn to the 5-latch case as ultimate security for these pancakes! Just so right!

I'd also be quite curious about the koa sound! I can already...

    Re: Thomastik-Infeld Strings

on an arch top, I'd use the 154st. Even the, "Heavy" set maxes out at 0.34!

    Re: Ultra low action

count the turns of the wheels. It helps to know the thread spacing. So, if the threads are 24 to the inch, then one turn raises the bridge by 1/24th of an inch. By laws, then you'd raise the...

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

re: Flaws. It's like a Persian rug. It only has value because of the flaws. If the flaws were not there, it wouldn't be made by hand.

I'd buy a tribute mandolin. I'd play it wherever I...

  14. Re: How important is having the original hardshell case?

I'd think any teens or 20s-era Gibson - very important. Clearly, the F5 cases sell for $10K so the market says it's truth!

In buying a pre-Gibson Flatiron pancake, the 5-latch cases are just too...

Then too, it's been a few years since I stopped collecting. So thankful I have my four buddies (32 strings)! Funny thing for me, I play one at...

  18. Re: Recommendations for a quality but affordable mandolin

it's the 2x factor. Can you get a good solid, "Professional" level guitar for $500 bucks?

Maybe a Flatiron, "Festival" grade a-model?

    Re: Mandolin Pandemic Isolation Mission

Re: Virtual Shop Tour(s)... I'll show you mine

I think your shop is just so cool! Not a builder - by a long way! Surprisingly; however, I have known a few builders during my life and spent time in their shops. It's all so interesting to me!

    Re: Favorite A style mandolin?

Ekaterina Skliar makes wonderful classical music on her Gibson A9. I'd go for an f-hole arch-top, get the correct pick and strings and move on.

Love my paddle head Gibson; however,.
