    Re: Upgrade Fever

The KM-950 is indeed an excellent instrument and the price would allow purchase of a tone-guard, arm rest, and a BlueChip should you choose per the good recommendation listed above.

    If you want...

  3. Re: Kentucky 1000/1050 in New England states?

There’s a guy on Facebook marketplace selling a KM-1050 in Manchester right now. It looks like someone sanded the gloss off the top to make it look duller. I messaged him about it and he said it’s a...

Re: Seeking Input On Top Crack/Issue

    Thanks for the insights.

The mandolin is from 2002. It has a nitro finish.

Everything I have read seems to bolster the idea that it is most likely cracks in the nitro finish. I'll be taking...

    Seeking Input On Top Crack/Issue

My Collings MT2 has developed an issue.

I initially though the finish was cracking/delaminating where I rest my arm because the finish chipped off the neck as well, but I am now concerned that...

Re: Help with new mandolin purchase.

There's a pretty big difference tonally in the mandolins you mention. I've owned the models you've mentioned... Some are going to cut in a band/jam setting much better. The Northfield F5S has a...

I will dearly miss the TMS F5 Customs that were essentially bound versions of the *new F5G but I'm glad to see the larger frets and board...

    Re: Refret

One alternate possibility if you're noticing a buzz is that your neck may have a slight bow which is easily remedied by adjusting your truss rod if applicable. You may have already assessed this.

Re: NMD Kentucky KM 950 Master Model

They are excellent mandolins! I had one for several years and absolutely loved it. You're right that they have an incredible fit and finish. Enjoy!
  11. Re: Is Gibson only making two models of mandolins now?

Quite a shame, because a few years ago I pulled the trigger and bought a Gibson F5 Custom from The Mandolin Store. Those models look the part with full binding and more importantly they sound the...
  12. How to blend/smooth transition of nitro to bare wood

    195312Hi,

I’m trying to fix some nitro that is flaking off of my Collings MT2. I have successfully scraped off all of the old nitro where a usual speed neck would be. The transition from bare...

    Re: non bluegrass mando

    I really enjoy Mandolin Orange.

    Greensky is pretty much rock/country/jamgrass.

    Caleb Klauder is old country.
  23. Re: Which Mandolin fits/compares to your Ability ??

On the weighted bell curve of mandolins, I'd say the peak is near the $5k mark... Because at the far ends are basically a $350 starter and a $22,500 Gilchrist, and you could basically eliminate the...
