  1. Re: Stephen Perry updates, shop running again, located N. Va.

Bart, George and Alex... I admire your optimism!
  2. Re: What is the "Allure" of The Gibson Snakehead?

    Interesting question but...
Seems it's not all that easy to get satisfying answers from Gibson about decisions they make regarding today's production. Uncovering the reasons for decisions made a...

    Re: Gibson's 1923 F-5 Master Model Reissue

Bottom of the page here, it does say "Glued in, Set Neck". I take that as differentiating between mortise and tenon neck joint vs dove tail. No mention of glue used.

    Re: Gibson's 1923 F-5 Master Model Reissue

Chances are, I'm not going to buy one, so it's not really that important to me personally. Regardless of what the 'hide glue' answer is, the question is still interesting. I read everything available...

    Re: Gibson's 1923 F-5 Master Model Reissue

Hard to say. That is a significant sum of money. I suppose IF I could be assured of getting all (or most) of that money back sometime in the future, I might pull the trigger.

    On the other hand,...

    Re: Gibson's 1923 F-5 Master Model Reissue

Fingerboard is flat. (See bottom of page)

The 14 degree radius is mentioned in the F5-G description.

    Re: case goodies

Charming for sure Rick. The penmanship employed in song #1 gives it a whole new spin!

And by the way... song #2 was written by Don Imus' younger brother Fred.

    Re: A 1921 f2?

That looks to be a very nice f2. Judging by what I can see of the interior, the case was also very nice until it was pried apart.

On one hand, I'm very happy for you obtaining such a nice and...

    Re: Church Praise Band Question

Yes. What I should have said is "Just not glad enough to learn to like a bunch of those 'suspended' chords."

Don't know how or when it got to be a thing or why they're so popular, but those chords...

    Re: Church Praise Band Question

Sherry. If you like the music the Praise Team is doing and want to be a part of it, I think you should do like Skip suggests. Let them hear what they've been missing!

    Personally, I'm glad...

Re: Darryl Wolfe selling off stuff

Hey Darryl... In reading your ad, I notice you say: "I am going to be listing a bunch of stuff for sale. Mostly tuners, cases bridges, tailpieces and such. But at 72 years old there will be so much...
  15. Re: What are the chances that a moderately-priced mandolin sounds

Until you can come up with a useful definition of 'moderately-priced' and some empirical evidence defining just what it is that constitutes A++ sound, I'd say the 'chances' are whatever you want them...

Re: What is or was this?

    Kind of sad really.

Some old buzzard in the hills of Appalachia , with very little lutherie skill and even less experience put his best effort into building this Gibson copy. Selected the best...

    Re: Underrated?

I'm guessing that's Steve Earle's idea of clever artwork on his headstock inlay. Understandable maybe but overrated.
  19. Re: Chris Thile & Billy Strings Saturday Morning Sessions

    Yes.
  20. Re: Chris Thile & Billy Strings Saturday Morning Sessions

Watched it via my DVR. As (Journeybear) predicted, the music segment didn't start until an hour and forty minutes in. Thank God for Fast Forward.

I apologize for my blanket statement saying the...
  21. Re: Chris Thile & Billy Strings Saturday Morning Sessions

Yes. Thanks for the heads up (and to journeybear as well)! All set to DVR the show and looking forward to seeing Chris and Billy. And thankfully will be able to skip through the rest of it.

  22. Re: the gibson master model 2001 signed by danny roberts

I've been meaning to ask this for a while after it came up in another thread. Were any of the "real Master Models" Ferns or were those MMs and DMMs all Flower Pots?
  23. Re: Jam Etiquette / Rules Question - Should songs be banned

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough when I said the line in question was sung by Elvis. So, to repeat, what I said was "As much as I love the early Elvis stuff, I always questioned the wisdom (or...
  24. Re: Jam Etiquette / Rules Question - Should songs be banned

I agree with your point but anger???, I don't know. If you really break it down, it's a misguided, poorly conceived attempt by the speaker of those words, to express the depth and sincerity of his...
  25. Re: Jam Etiquette / Rules Question - Should songs be banned

Actually it was Arthur Gunter's line before Elvis covered the song (Baby Let's Play House). Lennon borrowed the line some 10 years later.
