  1. Re: Could I leave mando in car in winter while skiing?

I pretty much did what you are describing on a camping trip to the grand canyon. Temps ranged from 30s to 80s or so. It was in a calton case and I wrapped it in a 20 degree down bag at night and...

Re: Which kind of Mandolin you play ?

My friend occasionally lets me play his Old Wave, Ellis F, or one of his old Gibsons, but the one I usually play is my Heiden F. I like it a lot.

  6. Remined of yet another cool thing about Frank Solivan

The recent release of new Frank Solivan music reminded me of another strength of his, beyond fantastic musicianship and creativity.

Some years ago at a festival in Buffalo, Wyoming, I asked him to...

Fun jamming with a new "stranger"

Well, he's no longer a stranger. It was a lot of fun to meet John Adams from Seattle. He made it to our Sunday jam twice and added some real quality to our group. He's a really nice guy. It was...

  10. Finely controlling humidity seems to be a "must", but I wonder

    Hi all:

I live in Wyoming and am going on a week long boat cruise in early May from Seattle to Alaska and back. I don't want to skip a week of playing so want to take my mando.

    There are...

Re: Where did you find your last mando?

I'd been interested in a builders instruments for a while. I casually mentioned it to someone at a music camp who said, "oh, I've got one of those for sale".

I bought it and am no longer on the...
  12. Hoping someone has seen one of these before

Saw this in a local pawn shop. It seems reasonably well made and actually doesn't sound too bad. I didn't see anything inside.

    Any ideas? Thanks,
    Bill

    Re: Planning a road trip

Greetings. You got some good advice about traveling with your mando. Another thought; let me know if you are passing through Sheridan or Buffalo Wyoming, and I'll round up some folks to pick with.
  14. Re: How fun, I met my mandolin instructor - Sharon Gilchrist

  16. How fun, I met my mandolin instructor - Sharon Gilchrist

  17. Re: What price level and up gets you a "lifelong keeper" mandolin

After many years, I ended up with a nice Heiden F. No need for me to look any more.
  18. Re: How to Keep a Headstock Tuner from Damaging Your Instrument

We've had some around for a long time. My wife thought maybe home depot. I thought maybe a craft or sewing place. Google for sure.

    Good luck.

  19. Re: How to Keep a Headstock Tuner from Damaging Your Instrument

I put a strip of sticky sided felt on the inside of the tuner jaws. It doesn't seem to affect the accuracy of the tuner and prevents marring by the hard rubber pads.

    Cheers,

  20. Re: Potential Left Thumb Surgery - similar experiences?

  22. Potential Left Thumb Surgery - similar experiences?

    Hi all:

I was just diagnosed with Eaton stage IV CMC arthritis on my fretting hand. It sounds like a farily common problem for people and in my case has resulted in bone on bone.

    If I get to...
