Re: The only red burst Loar-signed F?

I went to the music closet and opened the case. I don't believe the instrument has seen daylight since 2006. The email from Mr. Gilchrist is dated 3/19/00 and says "In 1990 I visited Mr. Garris to...

Re: The only red burst Loar-signed F?

Correct. Some unknown builder who may have been in Ohio. Peghead says Gibson. I bought the mandolin from Dave Musselwhite. If I remember correctly he was selling it for the owner's widow and it was...

Re: The only red burst Loar-signed F?

OK. Hang onto your hat. I have that other mandolin that had a new top by Steve Gilchrist. I bought it from a well known dealer at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival around '96 or '97 for $1,500. ...

Just ran across this thread on a rainy afternoon. Yesterday I was playing with Dick Staber. He has a beautiful Campanella F5 from Joe Cleary. But the real reason I'm writing has to do with Mr....

Re: Very Very affordable Mandocello Alert!

This thing is really growing on me. I just leave it sitting out. I grab it whenever I get a few minutes. It's comfortable to play sitting down. It has strap buttons but I haven't tried to play it...

Re: Very Very affordable Mandocello Alert!

Someone has already posted youtube video of a Wish Mandocello. I am shy about my playing at this point, so for now that will have to do. I will say however, that the new strings have made a huge...

    Eastman Mandocello Fingerboard Width

Hey! I've had an Eastman Mandocello for years. I love the way it sounds, but I've never connected with it. I just don't love to play it. I just picked up a Wishnevsky Mandocello and connected with it...

Re: Very Very affordable Mandocello Alert!

I bought a bass bow at the convention. Bernunzio is having a HUGE sale right now and I was afraid to look around. That place is amazing.

    got it!

Picked up the 'cello today. New strings! I like it. It's fun. And i can leave it just sitting around. Can't put it in the case 'cause there is none. It's not a pristine pretty instrument, so if the...

Re: Very Very affordable Mandocello Alert!

I've been thinking about this one. Interesting opportunity. Really cool looking instrument. How often do you see a campfire mandocello? So I checked Bernunzio's website yesterday and it was on hold....

Re: Very Very affordable Mandocello Alert!

This one is very playable and sounds OK. It really needs new strings. The heel on this instrument is huge and access past the 7th fret becomes difficult. Overall I kind of like it.

    Very Very affordable Mandocello Alert!

I played a Wishnevsky at Bernunzio's today. Asking price $250. No case. That's a foot in the door for a very reasonable price for the 'cello curious.

    Re: Wishnevsky

I played a used Wishnevsky Mandocello at Burnunzio's today. They're asking $250. I'd like to hear it with new strings. It's way funky. A true campfire mandocello. The heel goes all the way to the 7th...

This is really helpful. I bought an Eastman a few years ago but never played it much. Today I pulled it out and spent about an hour with it and it feels like the fretboard is simply too wide. Can...
