    Re: The Myth of Perfection

There was a late night discussion with Bill Halsey where I made a comment about how things were done at the factory with “casual perfection” I think we laughed for an hour. But, the fact remains that...

    Re: '77 D.Wm Halsey F5

    Just noticed your post grommet,
Bill is only doing bows these days, his mandolins are now “collectible items” at least in my opinion. I was lucky to see his early builds and quite a few of his later...

    Re: '77 D.Wm Halsey F5

Yessir, I played that one and remember the case! There is also a double case out there somewhere that he made for, I think, his F-4 and that F-5. The “Pockets” were about the right size for a bottle...

    Re: “Banjo killer”? Wishful thinking?

Well, banjos are simply LOUD! Mandolins, not so much, as Mr. Hamlett said, and I seriously paraphrase “It’s not a level playing field, and it never will be.” Yes, F holed instruments project forward...

    Re: '77 D.Wm Halsey F5

I remember that one! It was one of three of the prototypes offered to Bill Monroe, who chose the one built by Aaron Cowles.
I was lucky enough to have played quite a few of Bill’s mandolins, I think...
