  1. Re: Is playing TABS detrimental to really learning?

I don't think using TAB is detrimental, however I strongly encourage learning notation basics, I can read but I can't sight read, however being able to read does expand ability and potential, there...

    Re: MuseScore software

Mandolinsanity - think you can post them on the muse score sight, they have a section for submitted notations, a lot of it you can just down load and open in muse score

Re: Still cant play a break!

To me lot of playing breaks is jumping in strong and landing the finish, so start there, know the chord changes you are playing over, - if you don't have them down to almost automatic then go back...

Re: recommend me an acoustic bass

Well in frenzy of MAS I purchased the Epihphone De Lux classic acoustic bass, and ( as predicted by other reviewers) I turned the A tuning peg and the plastic handle immediately disintegrated, still...

    Re: MuseScore software

Yup I had a program called "noteworthy composer" back in the days of 32 bit operating systems and floppy disks, but Muse Score is a perfect example of how "open source" can be successful. It's gone...

  10. Re: Two Hornpipes: Rights of Man and Off to California

I always thought of a hornpipe as having a rhythmic hesitation in each measure as opposed to a reel which is 4 beats straight on.

Re: Goat Rodeo Tiny (Home) Desk Concert

You know sometimes Goat Rodeo is "a bit much" and "over the top" or "heady", but then sometimes it is exactly what you needed to hear at that moment.
I suppose most music can fall into that second...

I took a lesson from Frank Solivan and I wanted to focus on my right hand, and what he pointed out was I was changing the way I gripped the pick - excessively.

  18. Re: Sparse mando and guitar examples aka taste lessons

I've always liked Peter Ostroushko's sublime riffing on Greg Brown's rendition of William Blake's "Songs of Innocence and of Experience" set to folk music
  19. Re: Mark O'Connor Little Maggie on Mandocello

Bill "overwhelming"is a good word to describe Mark, when you think of it, David Grisman hired one of the world's premier fiddlers to play guitar in his band ( talk about setting the bar high). I...

    Re: Sheet Music Generator

I do like Musescore, though It's not exactly what you are looking for.
You have to input the notes and choose the duration, key, time signature, and it doesn't auto correct notation mistakes.
    It...

  25. Re: What are your favorite albums featuring mandolin?
