Wow. I was recently in Bozeman. Wish I'd known...
So many variables. So many Gibson voices. You can still get good deals on A models from the teens for well under a grand if you're patient. They don't sound like Fs, but they do sound wonderful.
Just reviewed this thread. "The World's Cheapest Gilchrist" hasn't seen the light of day since I took it out to photograph it. I just don't play it at all. It's on my shelf as a novelty and perhaps...
I went to the music closet and opened the case. I don't believe the instrument has seen daylight since 2006. The email from Mr. Gilchrist is dated 3/19/00 and says "In 1990 I visited Mr. Garris to...
Correct. Some unknown builder who may have been in Ohio. Peghead says Gibson. I bought the mandolin from Dave Musselwhite. If I remember correctly he was selling it for the owner's widow and it was...
She keeps saying "Henry Garrison." Does she mean Henry Garris?
OK. Hang onto your hat. I have that other mandolin that had a new top by Steve Gilchrist. I bought it from a well known dealer at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival around '96 or '97 for $1,500. ...
Just ran across this thread on a rainy afternoon. Yesterday I was playing with Dick Staber. He has a beautiful Campanella F5 from Joe Cleary. But the real reason I'm writing has to do with Mr....
2.75 mm! I'm intrigued!
I bought the used Wishnevsky from Bernunzio. Check the CBOM forum here at mandolincafe.com for some posts....
This thing is really growing on me. I just leave it sitting out. I grab it whenever I get a few minutes. It's comfortable to play sitting down. It has strap buttons but I haven't tried to play it...
Someone has already posted youtube video of a Wish Mandocello. I am shy about my playing at this point, so for now that will have to do. I will say however, that the new strings have made a huge...
103108 Safe and sound at home.
I can't imagine how a set up would help the wide board.
Hey! I've had an Eastman Mandocello for years. I love the way it sounds, but I've never connected with it. I just don't love to play it. I just picked up a Wishnevsky Mandocello and connected with it...
I bought a bass bow at the convention. Bernunzio is having a HUGE sale right now and I was afraid to look around. That place is amazing.
I'm still at the Bass Convention. I'll put up pics when I get home.
Picked up the 'cello today. New strings! I like it. It's fun. And i can leave it just sitting around. Can't put it in the case 'cause there is none. It's not a pristine pretty instrument, so if the...
I've been thinking about this one. Interesting opportunity. Really cool looking instrument. How often do you see a campfire mandocello? So I checked Bernunzio's website yesterday and it was on hold....
This one is very playable and sounds OK. It really needs new strings. The heel on this instrument is huge and access past the 7th fret becomes difficult. Overall I kind of like it.
I played a Wishnevsky at Bernunzio's today. Asking price $250. No case. That's a foot in the door for a very reasonable price for the 'cello curious.
I played a used Wishnevsky Mandocello at Burnunzio's today. They're asking $250. I'd like to hear it with new strings. It's way funky. A true campfire mandocello. The heel goes all the way to the 7th...
I never even compared them. I threw the old broken one out and I installed the new one.
Oops! I see I really dropped the ball on this one. Sorry. The new tailpiece arrived and everything is just fine except for the scratches made when the original blew out. Steve and Eastman took good...
