    Re: Dagger Gordon video

Gosh, it looks like something has happened to all the videos I put up this year which mostly came from my Facebook page. How strange. They were working last time I looked.

    Re: Dagger Gordon video

Thanks Iain. I Bhi Ada is a good one.

By the way, I just checked in on my last video, and the picture isn't working - only the sound. It used to be all right.
Is it just me, or can you see the...

I'm generally interested in seeing nice instruments and good builders, but like DavidKOS I also have an interest in Mediterranean music, especially from Crete, and in seeing people doing something a...
  7. Re: Where have all the Irish bouzouki / cittern players gone to?

This thread over a year ago sparked my interest and I first learnt of a number of Irish instrument makers through it.
Slightly frustratingly, we never did find out what Susanne did in the end.

  9. Re: What kind of mandolin is Johnny Winter playing in this photo?

I used to be a big Johnny Winter fan. I had his albums Johnny Winter and Second Winter, and I thought of him as an influence on my playing.

The redoubtable Mandocrucian did some research on his...

    Re: Taran Springwell

    That's interesting.

I usually take my Collings to sessions. I think it cuts through better, but the Sobell has a fuller sound on stage.

    Re: Taran Springwell

It is hard to keep fingers and brain up to full speed. I sometimes think that going to a session and playing for about 3 hours is the equivalent of a sports person training.
    Taran is sounding good....

    Re: Arlo Guthrie Retirement

Just read the article. He does sound like he's ready to retire.

I did see him actually. He appeared at a big pop festival here in the North Of Scotland called Belladrum.
    Excellent performer....

    Re: Mandolin to DADGAD

I know a number of guitar players who I have only ever heard playing in DADGAD. That is their style and that is what they do.

So if that is your interest, then I really can't see why not.
  18. Re: The merciless camera (recording ourselves as a reality check)

Lockdown has obliged many of us to do more things like Zoom, do video clips for Facebook or sometimes create instructional material.

Even watching yourself speak (never mind play) can be harrowing...

Re: Leaving Stoer by Ivan Drever

I got up quite early today, and while waiting for daylight I decided to record Leaving Stoer on my octave mandolin. I find the bass strings tuned up to A to be really effective in playing this tune....
