Re: Microphone for recording at home?

I'd also suggest a USB mic to keep things simple.

    Re: Ordering strings--any luck recently?

My Strings and Beyond order came in less than 5 days.
Hard to beat free shipping, even if you don't get a couple of pieces of candy.

    Re: Ordering strings--any luck recently?

Curious why you would put it like that.

I order with Amazon all the time. As of this date, I still have my soul, so..

Re: Keep Rigel or learn on different instrument?

BTW, about your question about getting the neck thinned, I'd contact luthier Skip Kelley who is a member here on the cafe. He's be a great choice to do the work, and if you contacted him, he'd get...

Re: Keep Rigel or learn on different instrument?

If it is uncomofrtable, get something else. I don't care how good the mando is (that extreme bridge position is questionable) if you have a difficult time learning on it, you will get frustrated and...

    Re: Coated like uncoated choices

    Many thanks for the replies!

If you were going to advise me your opinion about the most uncoated-sounding sounding, coated phosphor-bronze string, which would it be?

    Coated like uncoated choices

What I'd like to get your opinion on, is if you can recommend any coated strings that sound the most like their uncoated counterparts.

I like the DR MD-11s most of all on my mandos. I've often not...

Re: Beginner Mandolin & Violin Duets

I think Soldier's Joy would work well. Especially since you mentioned you were both beginners. Or at least you were.

Many fiddle tunes work well with fiddle and mando.

Re: Is this string about dead?

I have also never seen a wound mandolin E string.

I also agree that nut slots should be investigated first as the potential culprit.

Not trying to pile on, but I'll join the growing chorus on this thread to please rethink your plan of "refinishing most of the guitar, and adding a good clear coat over top." That sentence gave me...

    Re: Mandolin Meditations

I'm not sure people realize how difficult that is: total improvization without help or direction from set chord changes and other instruments. After your broadcast, I tried it on my mando, and,...
