    Re: Tax Day Cometh

Yeah, I’m sure. Buying online and picking it up in the same state or having it shipped to the same state triggers automatic state tax. Just like buying something in person. Buying online and having...

    Re: Tax Day Cometh

There’s your problem, if it wasn’t set up as an out-of-state shipment at the time of sale than it carries in-state obligations.

    Re: Tax Day Cometh

Did you have the mandolin held there in VA? If so then they would have to charge you VA state tax as the mandolin was not shipped out of state.

    Re: Hamlett Two-Point Review

Very nice - playing and mandolin - welcome to the Hamlett club. It’s a great place to be.

  7. Re: Carbon Fiber Builder wants our input on a Carbon Fiber Mandol

Seems like a great choice, actually.

Forget the negative people. Forget the people looking to watch and start a fight (popcorn eaters). Banjo makers use RichLite with great success. Keep doing...

    Re: Mandolin Cafe hats

I lost that same hat last year (2 of them actually), asked Scott about it and he said no more of that style on the horizon. Maybe if we get enough of us to commit to a purchase he'll reload the boat.

I'm more impressed by the fact that your mandolin is surfing the web.

    Re: Octave mandolin less-expensive choices

Call them and tell them you want one, they will hold the next in line for you and tell you when it will be there. Thats what they did for me when I got mine right before the 'Rona started.

    Re: Octave mandolin less-expensive choices

Gives it a much fuller sound, way more bass. Gave it some authority. I’ve tried the ‘blue’ EJ72 lights and the ‘orange’ EJ76 mediums. The 76’s definitely gave it a fuller sound but the difference...

Eastman MDO 305, get a set of mandola strings with it. Elderly has one on the way. Have them hold it for you.

    Re: MAS Control

On the bright side you’ve started the conditioning process. If she thinks all mandolas are around 18 grand then she won’t think twice when you buy one for 15 or 16. You saved a couple grand, right? A...

  19. Re: String preferences for Collings MTO oval mandolins?

Classical, Celtic, World, Nordic, Scottish, Folk, etc. The oddball stuff. Not much Bluegrass, but occasionally I like to learn an Monroe tune.
  20. Re: String preferences for Collings MTO oval mandolins?

I put the Thomastiks (Heavy, whatever they call that) on the MTO last night, played it for about a half hour, tuned it back up and put it away. Came home today, every string was still in tune except...
  21. Re: Octave mandolin e-string general question

I’m laughing at you only to hide the fact that I don’t know what I’m talking about. On my 21.5 I went from a 12 to a 15 and it was much brighter. Trying a 14 next time.

Re: Speed of bluegrass... is it just me?

Exactly the point. Like having track day with the Miata club and Michael Schumacher shows up in his qualifying Ferrari. Cool to see for a few minutes but not the reason you showed up for the day.

Re: Where are the ' Big guys ' ?

I’m pretty sure Gilchrist stopped coming here because he kept getting skipped over on the traveling pick sampler.
  25. Re: String preferences for Collings MTO oval mandolins?

Moneys, silk and steel and nickel bronze have varying degrees of almost drastic change. I really don’t like the sound of the MT2O with PB now.
