    Re: Mic for onboard use

Very much so. The tonedexter is wonderful after the learning curve and setup. The para is not wonderful :disbelief:
  5. Re: Looking for advice on best mandolins around 5K

One is a listing from 5 years ago, that is a difference other than just the price.
  6. Re: A colascione and a gittern completed recently

Are the sound hole lattices carved or woven? Your work is lovely!
  7. Re: Looking at your hands while playing -- opinions?

If I’m not wearing bifocals I can really see my left hand, so no use looking for me:cool:

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

I rock at the mandolin and stink at the guitar, even though I can read my bandmate’s guitar chords at full speed when we play, even when he capo’s. I have yet to spend any time training my body to...

    Re: Flat Wound Strings

I’ve used TI flat wound and D’ADDARIO flat tops in the past….of the two I prefer the flat tops. The flat wounds took off to much overtones from my mandolin, the flat tops are very comfortable, and...
  11. Re: Emotional hearing, and changing out my 7-year old strings...

If you don’t like the jangley new string sound, try using GHS silk n steel(actually silver plated copper) GHS silk n bronze, they both have filaments of silk added to the core of the wrapped strings,...

I agree…what’s up with that funky fiddle?

    Re: David McLaughlin Style

He’s rocking out with bluegrass improvisation. It’s based on scales in the key of the chord changes.
It comes from fluid understanding of scales and chords and blues/bluegrass specific scales,...
  17. Re: What's the big deal about changing strings?

37.5 seconds per string change is quite fast. How fast do you play?
    Wait…you never said mandolin….was it a domra(3), morin khuur(2), or a washtub bass(1)?:))
  18. Re: Northfield Airloom Deluxe case 2.0 - what was improved?

I have a 1.0, I like it. It is sleek, with ample storage. My only complaint is that it does not protect the bridge area from receiving pressure in the event of a strike or weight to the top of the...

    Re: Harmonic Suppressor

I have two, and like them. It is critical to have the spacing of the screws matched to your string spacing, if it’s off it will move around a bunch, or need to be at an angle.

Another detail to work on…you are only using down strokes in the video. Learning full up/down pickin technique will change your tone too.
