Nope. This issue was settled way back in 1984 with the Betamax case. Making a local copy of a broadcast for personal use is fair use.

How do you chop open strings?
No mando, but Meyer's transcription of half the cello suites for bass is astonishing. Play it on a good system. Wish he would do the rest.
Can you specify these patterns? How would I do this?
Isn't this "bluegrass style"? Why would that only work sometimes?
I've been really, really happy with my used Eastman 615. It's enough mandolin to keep me happy for years to come.
Gene Goforth was from Eminence MO.

Almost forgot, Dr. Fiddle has transcriptions!

What's the "standard" C chop chord?
The strap I use has a broad strap, with a thin leather loop at the end to go through the scroll. Just take whatever strap you're using, tie your bootlace in a loop at the end, and you're good to go.
Wonderful. I just saw Jeff last week. He played two full sets at a bar show. He threw down admirably. Though I have to admit, I miss Danny Barnes.
Seeing Sam Bush for the first time this...
I'm learning the Red Apple Rag. My understanding is that rags involve syncopated rhythm. But it sounds straight to me. Am I listening for the wrong thing?
Went to a jam circle last week. Wasn't feeling self conscious. Did a lot of raking the strings in rhythm. On my turn I confidently called Whiskey Before Breakfast, which I can play in my sleep. ...
Playing Sally Goodin with an A drone on the 7th fret of the D string is how I built my pinky strength. It's less of a stretch because the 2 and the 7 are on adjacent strings. Once you can do that,...
Man of Constant Sorrow is a good one. This video about strum patterns has singing and strumming at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1ZOv1-wc28 Tabs are plentiful. Even non-bluegrass fans...
No kidding, playing by ear seems just about impossible to me. I have trouble transcribing tunes when I have a video showing me the left hand and an audio editor with pitch corrected slowdown.
You could probably see your teacher every other week. Then you're feeling more comfortable, and saving a bit of money too.
What if they're playing in C and you don't know the F chord? What if you can't chop yet? What if you know the chords, but can't do changes at any reasonable speed?
There has to be some sort of...
A tune a week sounds crazy to me. I've been playing for 18 months, almost every day, and have 9 tunes with variations. I'm teaching myself, so I go at my own pace. I don't move on until the tune...
That's the part that worries me. What's the minimum skill set to show up at a jam and not ruin the fun for others?
Playing with others seems far more terrifying than playing for others.
But if you just keep going when you make a mistake, don't you reinforce the mistake?
How do you learn to do this? What exercises would you suggest? When I flub a note, the result is total...
These are fantastic, thanks for the heads up.
What I do is come in at a slight angle. This pushes the courses closer together, so they fit under the tip. It's just a slight angle, so there's plenty of normal force keeping the strings down.

Thanks for all the answers. I tried it a bit and the last option works well for me. What helped me conceptualize it was thinking of the 8th note as a 16th and a rest. So switching to the 16th note...
