    Re: Rehab Hospital

That definitely looks nicer and more comfortable than my guitar strap idea, and it’s just right for a F5. I’ll hold on shipping mine until we hear back. Happy to send it, too, if he wants it for...

    Re: octave mandolins

I find 20 inch scale instruments much more comfortable to play than 22.5 and up. I’ve got large hands but not long fingers. My pinky is pretty functional, but the shorter scale helps me out a ton.

    Re: Rehab Hospital

Gary, so sorry to hear! If you think it would work I can send you a guitar strap with a string you could probably slip onto the scroll or tie to the headstock. I don’t have an F style to test it on...
  6. Re: Going out of the country...personal item/carry-on?

Sblock: Yep, yep, yep! I’ve flown several times with a disposable soprano uke in a backpack without issue, so I got brave and took my beater mandolin at the time (Eastman 315) on a short flight to...

    Re: Mandolin vs. Mandola?

I tried a Kimble mandola and an older Gibson mandola at TME back in August. I went in expecting to leave with one of them—low end tone but shorter stretches—but, compared to cello and OM, there just...

Re: ISO: Case that Fits a 1930's Regal Resonator

Don’t know for sure, but what about a National RM-1 case? PM me the measurements (because I tend to be poor at following threads once they fall off the frequently happening page), and I’d be happy to...

Yep, he had talent and the necessary balance of OCD and humility to work his ars off. I understand that he had serious mouthpiece acquisition syndrome, not because he liked them, but because he was...

Man, that one is just right...

I’ve not been a fan of the behavior of “corporate Gibson” for years, but there’s no denying the folks who made and are making these did/are doing a fine, fine job....

  14. Re: ISO Recs for Bluegrass Mandolins in the $900-1.2K rang

Morris, Silverangel, and Kentucky 900 series. Used Ratliff, Bulldog (Kratzer), and (rarely these days) Gibson A9 and Weber A styles pop up close to your upper #. Happy hunting!

    Re: The Kentucky

My first mandolin was a KM 675-S built the first year Saga moved production to China. They were still working out some kinks, and it had some issues, though all were admittedly not Saga’s fault (it...
  16. Re: Sirius Radio Replaced Bluegrass station 62 with 24/7 Dolly Pa

Lol, Mike, I can remember being thrilled when I got a CD player that would play through the tape deck in my old Tacoma back in the late 90s. Plugged into the lighter for power, and could almost make...

    Re: Rigel pricing inquiry

I recently picked up a 2002 CT-110 that is in line with Marty’s experience. The thing is a beast, louder than my Kelley A5 (so far, anyway. The Kelley is plenty loud and still practically new), and...
