I was part of the Octave section, it was a lot of fun.
Especially since we got to host the convention this year :)
This is such a COOL piece! And the OM part all fits on one page...nice. I also am looking for this to see if we (The Orpheus Mandolin Orchestra from Bloomington IL) want to give it a try.
Thanks.
Bratsche,
do you still have your Mid-Mo mandola? What strings do you have on it? It's time for me to put new strings on my dola and wondering what to use.
kevin
I will be there, been looking forward to it since last year:)
Just put new strings on the OM, hope it will be done settling in by Saturday.
I tried this with a Troubadour mandola (402mm about 16" scale length) with limited success.
I used this http://www.mcdonaldstrings.com/stringxxiii.html to calculate the string tension and picked...
I can sometimes, It depends on how simple the tune is.
It can sound really cool all on a single string. Then I forget where I am at and it all goes out the door.......:)
Thanks for all of the input, I was wondering about this because some of the music I "try" to play sounds better without the jump from a fretted note to an open string.
The 7th fret sounds better...
I was just wondering if it would be possible to remove the nut and replace it with a zero fret and string spacer insert.
Of course the zero fret would have to be in the right place to keep the...
I bought the clip on pickup to use with my Korg CA30, it works OK but is much more sensitive to the low strings (both Mando and OM) when I clip to a tuning knob. the bridge is OK but the knob is the...
It sounds like the old "instant on" vacuum tube color TV I had last century. In the "off" position the tubes still had power to the heaters. They got a lot brighter when the TV was turned on. Or,...
I wish that my Johnson OM sounded as good.
Of course it could also be the operator :))
What strings are you using and what was the name of the tune?
I have tried stringing a 15.8" mandola as an octave and had mixed sucess. It took a really heavy string size for the low G. It sounded almost OK open but it was really bad when fretted.
I figured it...
I use this WONDERFUL tension calculator when I am messing with various strings and making an instrument be something other than what it was made for. LOL

Do you have any pictures yet?
I bought my Mid-Mo M15 mandola a few years ago, I have a set of TI strings on it and I really like the tone. It has the same tone woods as my M2 mandolin and sounds very similar. I wonder how the...
I had gotten used to having my PT-2 upside down on my OM right until this Wednesday night right before our monthly prayer service when I took it out of the instrument case and it was DEAD! I am glad...
I guess everyone that attended had a good time, I am suprised that there wasn't any additional discussion about this event.
I keep waiting for the phone call that I won the raffle for the Herb...
Hi Dan,
I have a Troubadour mandola that has a scale length of about 16" and about a 3" deep body that I retuned. I played with string gauges until it had the same basic string tension as the...
Sounds like a plan to me Ted. What size strings are you using?
Dave, do you think you could post the picture of the tailpiece that Mike sent you? I looked on his site but they are not shown.
I would love to be going but alas, finances and work won't allow it.
Everybody have fun and please tell us all about it!
Patrick, that is a very nice tune you have put together.
What key(s) are they in or is the music on line somewhere?
Thanks for the reply, I am the "sound guy" at Church so I have or can get the stuff we need. The guy that will run the soud for us is in the same position at his church. Except he has actually done...
The mandolin orchestra that I play with has been asked to play a couple or outdoor events this summer.
We are not a very large group, 5 mandos, 2 OMs, a guitar or banjo depending on the tune and a...
