    Had both ! I prefer the modern sound oval, preferably a Girouard oval over other modern style oval mandolins.

    I started my journey of MAS with an Eastman but as my playing improved I went through several mandolins and have ended up with Ellis and Girouard models ! Journey complete !

    I saw and heard one being played a few years ago in Arkansas but wasn't impressed much. A very tinny sound ! May have just been this particular model and a larger sampling of this company made...

    I have two Girouard mandolins and one of which is a F4 with a Port Orford Cedar top . To my ears the oval sound is Crystal clear with a lot of sustain. Love the sound that PO produces and workmanship...

    Save your money and try to find a used Girouard A5 or oval. For not much more and you can have a new Girouard. Fantastic instruments !

    Started with an Eastman A5, then an Eastman F5 915 with an extremely poor setup and fret replacement from a dealer in Florida, then a very good Oldwave oval, then a Northfield with finish problems...
