Nice to know I'm not the only one who uses the old "but honey, it's a wonderful investment" routine to get the wife on board . LOL

On the same topic but a bit earlier, is there a source for Handel tuners for a 1916 F4? I realize they are not being reproduced but perhaps there is someone who has them.
I purchased this 1916 F4 last year for $3600 with original case. I find it to be stunning beautiful with all the inlay, Handel tuners, etc. The neck is much more "robust" than my 1927 truss rod F2....
1927 F2. All original, MINT condition, and celebrity owned provenance (DAWG).192971
I was in a recent discussion about vintage F style oval hole Gibbys. Some have stated that they are starting to become more recognized and that their value will be on the rise. Opinions please.
Thanks. That makes more sense. The 8814 and 82525 are VERY clearly visible. In Spann's book, page 64, they talk about FON "rollovers" in that once a batch of instruments were made with a specific...
I have a Gibson F2 mandolin with a serial number of 82525 and the label appears to be 100% original and correct. From this number I calculate it to be built in 1925. However, the FON stamped inside...
I recently swapped about $200 worth of welding for a The Loar LM 600VS. My reaction to the very first note I played was WOW! Loud and bright. Sure, it needs some adjusting but nothing major. A...
I remember when John Reischman bought his F5 Loar for $8K (late 1970's) and I thought he WAY overpaid for it. HAH!!!! Inflation truly is a bit#h.
Yep.........I'm looking for another one but gonna keep the virzi '23. I love collecting teens and 20's F4's and F2's..........
F5's?? Yeah, but first I'll have to rob a few banks or win the...
Thanks for the quick replies. I assumed the same as has been mentioned. I'll leave it alone. Saves me a lot of worry .
Couple questions: Is there a way to remove a Virzi "sound amplifier" from a 1923 Gibson F-2 mandolin thru the oval sound hole without damaging the instrument? Would doing it reduce its value?
My first introduction to the band was right when Sally Van Meter joined them. Paul Shelaski was on mandolin, Laurie Lewis on violin, Kathy Kallick guitar, Markie Shubb bass, and Sally on dobro &...
Thanks Paul,
The one I acquired had a few minor finish issues around the inner edges of the F holes. The machines were cheap, made in Korea. The rectangular case is without "The Loar"...
The person I got it from said he bought it thru the Music Link. I'll send them an email and see how responsive they are. Hmmm, "musta left it in China"....how clever!
I am looking for any information regarding the early, prototype versions of this mandolin. The one I have has no paper label or stamping of any kind inside the instrument. How many were made? Is...
OOOPS........I hit he wrong button!

I received this instrument as payment for work I performed on a customer's Weber. I was told it was an early model....
I find the case to be top heavy, especially with loaded pockets. Remove the instrument and over she goes! The foam padding seems quite thin with the feel of wood just under the surface. I would...
Yup, that's the case. Seems to be a lot of wasted space inside. And, I'm not a big fan of those ouside pockets. When I walked into a local music store, the owner thought I had a Tommy gun! But,...
Ok then! For $300 (over $100 of which is in the tuners and bridge) it appears I lucked out and have a nice addition to my collection. But.....who designed that BIG gaudy looking case????
I recently took a "The Loar" LM-600-VS in trade for some repair work. I was not familiar with this instrument, but I figured that by adding a decent bridge and quality tuners I could recoup my $300...
I've had an experience (which ultimately required replacing the cheapo Korean made Schaller knockoffs) with the "toiletoid" buttons crumbling in my hands long before getting anywhere near standard...
I remember when John first was given the opportunity to buy that Loar. If I told you what he paid for it, you'd never believe me. Funny thing is, in those days it was considered top dollar!
