    Re: Seeking Grandfather's record

I don't know if Neil Gladd still posts here or not, but he works in the Copyright Office and has been through all the classical mandolin recordings in the Library of Congress, so he's your guy.

I can assure you Steve isn't playing that green Jerman, because I still have it! I would gladly sell it to Steve, of course.

Yes, he's playing a Daniel Gilchrist electric in the NPR photo. Steve...

Steve Earle on the Outlaw Country Cruise

It's being alleged that on last year's Outlaw Country Cruise, Steve Earle was playing a green mandolin similar in appearance to a Rickenbacker guitar.

The only such instrument I know about is the...

Re: Østbu 12-string mandolin from Norway

Very cool ... Glad there's someone out there whose Norwegian is better than mine and who can distinguish between a date and a telephone number. 1940s/50s makes a lot more sense as a date for this...

    Østbu 12-string mandolin from Norway

Came across this for sale recently. You don't see too many mandolins trying to have it both ways with soundholes. It reminds me in some ways of the Framus Black Rose Baby but is dated 1926 on the...

Those original tuner buttons are a thing of beauty; too bad about the replacement.

Re: K1 Mandocello... factory spliced neck?

Yes, I see Gibsons with no FONs every once in a while. On rare occasions the FON is somewhere besides the neck block ... i've seen one way over on a rib.
  14. Re: Framus Black Rose Baby Deluxe Mandolin #10501 or #70507

Very cool. You could always sell it here in the Classifieds. It's a desirable instrument for people who appreciate something different.

Re: National Triolian Mandolin Info Help

Non-original tailpiece (not a surprise, the originals just don't last) but looks pretty clean otherwise.
  16. Re: Semi-beginner here... trade-up or keep what I have?

A used Rigel A Plus Deluxe would fit the bill nicely, and they show up from time to time.

The Emando Normal string set gauges are chosen with a standard 13.875" scale length in mind. What are the scale lengths for each string on the Chase mandolin?

Pretty sure I have a Cumberland Acoustics Loar-style bridge sitting about that will make a good replacement.

This EM-150 was sold by T.R. Crandall a year ago.

Lyon & Healy never made an asymmetrical mandola. The Style A mandola remained symmetrical even after the asymmetrical mandolins were introduced.
