Re: What if I bought the wrong instrument?

I don't know if the OP is in a position to buy an oval holed mandolin at this point but this American made Breedlove looks pretty tempting...

    Re: Is it defective ?

It looks the bridge is too far forward. Measure from the nut to the 12th fret, the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge saddle should be the same or slightly longer.
I don't see any thing amiss...

    Re: Playing Solo..

Jethro Burns did a whole LP of solo mandolin, "Tea For One".

The intro is very funny and the playing is... well, Jethro.

    Re: Which bridge?

Steve at Cumberland Acoustics makes a great bridge and is a pleasure to work with. I have had no problem spending a bit more for his bridges.
Steve also offers a wider range of bridge heights and...

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

Good news Jill! Maybe while you are laid up you could write a tune..."The busted patella hornpipe" or "The floor that broke the kneecap". ;)

    Wishing you a full recovery!

  20. Re: What under $1200 used tenors would you look at?

Mostly referring to flat tops. I had a nice Gibson TG50 with a floating DeArrmond pick up that was great. I should have never sold it. However it is the case that gibson took a tenor neck and put it...
  21. Re: What under $1200 used tenors would you look at?

Looks like I am wrong about this, he posted the craigslist ad well before this discussion.
  22. Re: What under $1200 used tenors would you look at?

Looks he removed his "buy it now" price of $900.oo from the ebay listing and now has it on craigslist for $1200.oo?

Me thinks he is reading this thread on the Cafe.
  23. Re: What under $1200 used tenors would you look at?

I realize that the Martin O-17T is slightly above your stated price range but the condition looks very good.
  24. Re: What under $1200 used tenors would you look at?

I would look at a Martin O-17 tenor (all mahogany), they can sound very good and are usually less expensive then the O-18 (spruce top) tenors.
