    Thanks, I'll check that out.
  3. iPad app, for mandolin, similar to IRealPro?

I'm hoping there's an app, that shows mandolin chords, especially those used for jazz tunes(like the feature, that shows guitar chords, on IRealPro). Any suggestions?

Re: Rigel tailpiece problem - help!

The US company Stewart-McDonald sells a replacement strap-pin button, called a 'No-Jack', for filling the 1/2"(approx. 12mm) hole from a cable jack. I use them frequently, when removing acoustic...

    Re: Weymann Mandolute 35 brown?

They're nice instruments, if well set-up: but those inlaid tuners are not great, they're frustrating, but not easy to replace(at least, not good on the similar Weymann I owned years ago).

    Re: Weymann Mandolute 35 brown?

Hi Carl, from the photos, the general appearance of the finish, the wear, and the presence of the Weymann decal, I'd say the color is original. It does appear to be in good structural condition, but...

    Re: Tempted by a Gibson 1920 A-3

Well, this my reply is not about an A-3, but an A: Jim Garber's comment about 1921s prompted me to reply.
For years I've wanted an old Gibson oval hole mando, I love their sound. Couldn't find one...

    Re: Harmony Chicago History

Thanks, I enjoyed the article, and photographs, on the history of the Harmony company(especially the photos from the shop floor, like the foreman selecting Brazilian rosewood planks).
    Does anyone...
  11. Taking my Breedlove mando out of the country: problems on return?

Do I need any documentation/permits to take my '03 Breedlove(maple, spruce, ebony) traveling(specifically, for return to the US)? I don't see why, but, thought I'd ask around.

Re: new case for '30 Gibson TG0 tenorz/

I should have added, it's the smaller, earlier version, very small, 12-3/4" wide at the lower bout.

    new case for '30 Gibson TG0 tenorz/

This has probably been discussed, but can anyone recommend a good fitting case for the above guitar?

I've been fixing this one up, and the original case is no protection, apart from dust...

    Re: my new tenor!

I heartily agree with Coolwood about visiting Antebellum Instruments, but a small correction, it's in Rochester, VT(north of Stockbridge).

And I'll have to visit Randolin!

    Thanks for all your replies,

  16. Re: radiused fingerboard original on 1923 Gibson A-1?

I see now that the fingerboard has a compound radius: radiused at the nut, transitions to flat at the fingerboard end(by the soundhole). Not original...but I like it.
  17. radiused fingerboard original on 1923 Gibson A-1?

I have here in the shop the above mando. It has a radiused fingerboard: is this original, or would it have been flat? I've seen and played a few teens Gibsons, but never til now a '20's snakehead.

    Re: Lester Leaps In

I recently bought a recording, of a 1961 Riverside session(Volume 2, 'Blues & Ballads') of the great Lonnie Johnson, with guitarist Elmer Snowden. The first cut is 'Lester Leaps In' a great version....
  19. Re: Best sensor location for K&K when tone bar too close to f-hol

I spoke with the helpful folks at K&K, who recommended installing the sensor inboard of the bass tone bar(under the bridge foot), if possible. Which is what I did, with the help of a bent rod as an...

Re: 1915 Gibson F4 needs top crack repair.

Tavy, the back crack on that F-4 looks(as you say) old and quite dirty- how did you get it to clean up so well?
  21. RE:Best sensor location for K&K when tone bar too close to f-hole

I have a Loar LM-600(F style, with f-holes) on my bench, for installation of a K&K Mandolin-Twin pickup. I have done several K&K installations previously.
K&K specifies that the sensors should be...
  22. Re: K&K pickup installation problem(tape failure)

As noted above, I did reinstall the sensor, with two layers of tape, and superglue. While I thought the sound was too hot, the owner used it at a gig last weekend, and reported that it sounded fine....
  23. Re: K&K pickup installation problem(tape failure)

    Thanks for all your replies.

I've reinstalled the sensor, with two layers of tape, then superglue to the top. But it's much hotter than before, and I'm not sure the tone will be acceptable to the...
  24. K&K pickup installation problem(tape failure)

I installed, for a customer, a K&K Mandolin Twin p/u in a very nice custom made 'A' style, with F holes.
Initial installation went fine(two layers of double stick tape, as in the instructions), p/u...
