    More love for Pomeroys

Here’s my 2018 Violin Style A and a song called “Someday.” I find this instrument as much a pleasure to look at as it is to play. Unfortunately, this recording doesn’t do the mandolin the justice it...

Re: What are your go-to crowd pleasers?

Was staying with friends at a nearby lake last week, and one day we broke out the instruments and played lots of tunes for several hours. The song that got a response from several nearby camps? Wagon...

    Re: Buy without trying

The unfortunate consequence of our obsession with these instruments is that, with few exceptions, they just aren't available locally to experience in person. Unless you are fortunate enough to live...

Re: New owner of Pomeroy #243 Oval Hole

    Hi John.
The scroll and the violin-influenced construction are what appealed to me about the looks, along with the overwhelmingly positive reviews about the sound of Don's instruments. Happily,...
  10. Re: How did the "curl" on the mandolin body evolve?

    Or ask Allen Hopkins....;)
  11. Re: How did the "curl" on the mandolin body evolve?

I can't believe how long this has gone on without one of the cognescenti revealing the true source of "THE CURL." As the illuminated know, it was the Shermgel Family in Bavaria during the 14th...

Re: New owner of Pomeroy #243 Oval Hole

Steve - I'm sorry to have scooped it away on you! It is a really nice instrument. I saw one similar to this 3 years ago and thought someday in the future I'd like to add a violin-style instrument to...

New owner of Pomeroy #243 Oval Hole

    187535187533187536187537187538

I'm the newest owner of this instrument, and really pleased to have it. I can't decide what I want to do more - look at it or play it. The fit and finish on it is...

    Re: Price Fluctuations

Mary has made a very good point about innovation responding to times and need. I work with a company in California that has successfully turned its business model 180 degrees and enabled 175...
  18. Re: Does anyone like the new green blue chip picks?

I hope the chocolate-flavored version is a different shade of brown from the original blue chip. It would be a rude first bite!
  19. Re: Does anyone like the new green blue chip picks?

At first, I found them a bit bland. But with a dash of salt, or even some tabasco, the tone on your tongue picks right up. My son uses them with some cumin, but I find that a bit too exotic....

Re: Gigs Cancelled - Health and Safety

Our bluegrass band - Pejepscot Station - was set to play an iconic event marking Maine's Bicentennial - a Baked Bean "Suppah" this Saturday at Bowdoin College in Brunswick. 500 tickets sold in...
  22. Re: If you always wanted one of those sunfish style mandolins

There are some that might take exception to the belief that the crawlers taste better a few miles to the north!

'course, as a confirmed vegetarian, I have no dogfish in this fight!

  24. Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

    Mick - you're close.
I believe it is a "Smeagol," wrought in the forges of the Dark Tower to annoy elven ears. And to confuse mandolinists in search of the elusive "Devastator."

    It was wrought...
