  1. Re: Is this flatiron performer made in USA or Pac Rim?

it was given to him 15 years ago, and he never learned how to play. He just wanted it gone. I told him the price was "pretty low" and he was fine with that. I'm also fine with it.
  2. Re: Is this flatiron performer made in USA or Pac Rim?

I ended up buying it for $375. Deal of the week for this guy!
  3. Re: Is this flatiron performer made in USA or Pac Rim?

Many thanks guys! I'm gonna go for it tonight.
  4. Is this flatiron performer made in USA or Pac Rim?

I have an opportunity to pick up a flatiron performer A on a trade locally.

First digit of the 8 digit serial is a 9, so it could be 99, or 09 (I think)

Is this bad boy made in US or Overseas?...

Finally found a Weber Sweet Pea

After over a decade of watching, I just scored a Weber Sweet Pea travel mando in perfect "Has this ever been out of the case?" condition. Local guy had it for $150. Just had a friend grab it for me,...

Re: New Cittern: Chord Building Theory

I intend to do both. I have a low baritone voice, which really doesn't mesh well with mandolin. Also, I am drawn to the GDGDG tuning for its potential in cross picking trad tunes. I've wanted this...

Re: New Cittern: Chord Building Theory

That is my plan, I have a bunch of sheet music meant for bouzouki and am choosing new (to me) songs to completely dissociate the learning process from my mandolin experience.

    Thanks to you both!...

    New Cittern: Chord Building Theory

Hello all. My custom cittern is just being finished by Daniel Brauchli down in Tasmania. I went with a 22 (ish) inch scale tuned GDGDG. With his very responsive carbon-bracing technique, he talked...
  10. Re: Rubner as Saga replacement. Also, Kluson tuners suck.

I have no idea how this is relevant. I said that Rubners are comparable in smoothness and gear tightness to Grovers, which most people are familiar with and is a very common stock option on nice...
  11. Rubner as Saga replacement. Also, Kluson tuners suck.

I just replaced my Breedlove Quartz OF's tuners with a set of Rubner Classics. It came with Saga Golden Gates. The Rubners work with the Saga inserts, and 4 of the 5 screw holes line up. The 3 middle...
  12. I don't think this is a good move. Breedlove has...

I don't think this is a good move. Breedlove has been, for many years, the least expensive "good American-made carved top mandolin".

After this, what will they be? Another good for the money...
  13. Custom Cittern Project, Low D question

I am having a custom cittern made for me by Daniel Brauchli in Tasmania. We are currently discussing tunings and scale length. I originally wanted to start with DADAD tunings, and a 22-24" scale. ...

"Safe" top thickness to shoot for

I just picked up an IV mando kit, and i'm about to attempt my first build. I have access to just about any woodworking tool i need, but I am not going to push the envelope my first time around. So,...
  15. Re: Cabela's Announces Acquisition of New Millennium

Is that woven fabric on the the "carbon fiber" background on the "cabelas" headstock? Doesn't look like carbon to me, more like a picture of a shirt or something.

I would love this! Can't say I've ever been to a good mandolin concert before.

    Re: Check out this guy!

He is an interesting musician, he plays bass for a rock band as well. It will be neat to see what he turns out in the future.

    Re: Washburn mando, good buy?

I just paid for it, haven't seen it yet. There are numerous light scratches on the back, but no gouges, and it's been kept in a very humid area (Florida) so cracking shouldn't be an issue. He said...

    Washburn mando, good buy?

Ok, I was surfing on ebay, and I've been eyeballing the old washburn bowl backs for quite some time. I saw a washburn "crematone" mando in good shape, no cracks breaks etc, for 100 bucks obo. I...
