  2. Re: Splurging on the Best Possible Mandolin Strings

Well, at the risk of starting another mega strings discussion, if you stuck with the D'Addarios that long you must like them, so in an immediate sense, they are the best possible. Others may be...

Re: Ellis F5 Fern at Gryphon

Not to mention many stores are in business because of their love and respect of musical instruments and their builders. Part of that friendly reminder may simple have come come from their admiration...

Just adding that Patrick also plays banjo with Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands. He's a talented musician, adds texture to every band he's with.

Re: Ellis F5 Fern at Gryphon

I just looked and that Northfield A5 Special appears sold. At least it's not on line, which it had been while in stock.

    Re: Intentionally Imperfect Tuning

I haven't tried it with mandolin, but on banjo I often tune the B string slightly flat. I can't remember the logic for it, but it does sounds better that way.

    Sounds like there are similar...

Re: Storage: Case vs Hanging on the Wall

For whatever reasons I always keep my mandolins in their cases, don't really like them on a stand, and I've never been a fan of hanging instruments on the wall. I don't mind guitars or banjos in...

Not this year, but have fun. It's a great festival, been around a long time.
  20. Re: Question of Decorum: Asking Small Shop Builder to Change Inla

Builders generally want their customers to be happy with the instruments, playing them and showing them around.

Go ahead and ask, and know they get many questions like that, some of them maybe...

    Nice. Warm and resonant.

Sounds like a wool sweater and whiskey.
  23. Re: Moving past my F9...looking for recommendations.
