Thanks for posting this. I'd only ever heard the 1st cello suite being done on mandolin. I'd like to try and learn this piece.

Just wanted to report back and say that you guys were right on the money. I finally found the 1/4" nut driver from my little driver set and it fit perfectly. Slacked it off half a turn. Thanks again.
I have a 2003 Breedlove Olympic mandolin which needs a slight trussrod tweak. I removed the little truss rod cover but I don't recognize which tool I'd need to adjust the trussrod i.e. its not an...
I watched the Black Horse and Cherry Tree video. Sounds good - she has a really nice voice. Thats a great song too.
Someone needs to tell the harmonica guy that he doesnt have to play all the time.
One album I really like is Carrying the Tradition by the Lonesome River Band.

Great songs, and fantastic mandolin and vocals...
I think your mandolin has to go to 11 to able to play that lick!
Just watched it - fantastic. Extremely enjoyable, but a little humbling to watch musicians of that calibre.
Nice armrest: works really nicely with the rest of the mandolin.
One thing I noticed in your pic: you seem to have the saddle adjusted really high on your mandolin. It looks like its way up...
Thanks Jim, excellent suggestion. I didn't know about that one: I'll check it out.
I wonder if anyone else is in the same situation as myself. I totally love and revel in the musicianship of Ricky Skaggs. I'm staggered by the range of instruments that he masters, and his voice is a...
Nice combination. I've visited Raleigh, NC a couple of times: beautiful place.
Just recently received this mandolin: 2003 Breedlove Olympic. I'd been on the lookout for a used Breedlove Oval for a while now, preferably with a gloss finish. When this one showed up in the Mandolin...
Downloaded the mp3 for part 1 and listening to it now. Fantastic stuff. It is indeed hard to believe that Chris Thile is only 19 years of age on this recording.
That was great - unexpected material too. I love how musicians like the McCourys can make it all look so effortless.
Thanks Steve. Appreciate it.
Excellent suggestions almeriastrings: thanks for taking the time.
One complication for me is that my recording PC is a stand alone box used only for recording: it has no internet connection. So...
Nothing. Never clean it. I hate shiny instruments: I like all my guitars and mando to look played.
Turns out I dont have the same Focusrite box - the name just sounded familiar. Mine is the Scarlett 8i6, which does have a separate 12V DC supply. So perhaps low gain from the preamps is not the same...
Sounds great - well done. I have the same Focusrite 2i2 interface. I have a couple of lower end mics which i use to record mandolin, acoustic guitar, dobro etc. The only negative I have with the...
I recently discovered (and became infatuated with) this Youtube video by Sterling Abernethy. I discovered it via a link from the Carters Vintage Guitars website.

I have no idea...
Both of these sound like nonsense arguments to me. The kind of staement that is impossible to put up an argument against. Sterile? Please. You dont like that style of music? Thats perfectly okay....
I'm amazed by what some of you do to your instruments. "Some guy that owns a Gibson Loar said it would be okay" ?? Ummm ... okay then.
George approves ...

When I improvise a solo, I like to try and throw in some double stops. I think they sound great and are one of they components of the mandolin sound. However, I struggle to remember the various 2...
Wondering if anyone recognises this tune? I'd like to know the name of it. Its from a Lafferty demo video from The Mandolin Store. Starts at 0:06:
Cant get Youtube to embed the video? Anyway, the...
