Re: In Praise of Matt Flinner's Classes

Glad it's going well for you Todd, Hank, and Sue. I'm in week 3 of Advanced Fiddle Tunes. Loving the tunes he selected for us. If you haven't checked out the mp3s on the class website, those contain...

If the lid doesn't flop all the way over and the price is right, I'm interested.

    Re: Griffith Loar A-5 drawings?

Would love to play it. I'd like to get to MMC, but they aren't making it easy for people who have to fly in.

The Heiden will always be here. The others rotate through from time to time.

    Re: Griffith Loar A-5 drawings?

That looks great, Eric. How did it turn out tone-wise? I recently got a Stanley A5 that has the forward shifted ff holes, the A oval body size/shape, and the bridge in front of the top of the arch....

That looks like it's in mint condition. Looking forward to seeing the video when Emily posts it.
  10. Re: Duff A style mandolins, like to hear owner thoughts, some ?

Not a current Duff owner, but I've had a couple of his A5s. The necks are a fairly sharp V with just a little too much depth to them for my hand. I don't think the depth is excessive--I just prefer a...

Not attending, but if I did, I wonder how I'd know which person you are?
  12. Re: Bach's Invention in C Minor for Mandolin/Octave Mandolin

Sticky: Re: Loar Picture of the Day

This should be a good series of weekly videos of a variety of players playing a 23 Loar that was owned by a classical player since 1936. The Karasik Mandolin Project:...

Re: In Praise of Matt Flinner's Classes

I agree James--I'd sign up for a composition class from Matt. His session analyzing a couple tunes in the Modern Mandolinist workshop was brilliant. Even if all he did was analyze a tune or 2 each...

Re: Mike Comptonís approach to rhythm

I've heard Mike talk about this rhythm style--it's something Hartford wanted him to do at times in the Hartford String Band. Hartford was a big Ed Haley fan and Haley's wife backed Haley up on...

    Waltz in 2020 Time: Original

Here's a tune I wrote and recorded on mandolin, mandola, and octave mandolin. I used some of my photography from my daily walks with my border collie for the video. Thought the two things fit...

  20. Re: Tony Rice 'I've Waited As Long As I Can' on the mandolin

Thanks, Jake. Alan Bibey taught Tony's break to Gold Rush at Monroe Camp. An excursion into the blues scale and great fun to play on the mando. Looking forward to learning I've Waited As Long As I...

  24. Re: Eastman mandolin - assymetric top carving?

The bridge bases on my Heiden and Stanley are both fit so they are slightly angled toward the tailpiece. The saddles are perpendicular to the top. Maybe someone could refit the bridge base for you...
