  1. Re: All of My 2020 Festivals Have Been Cancelled

On the far side of this there will be enormous demand. People will be out enjoying the same activities as a year ago. But the shops and venues will be different, or at least different owners.

  2. Re: Anyone know of any nickel-free mando strings?

I believe the plain D'Addario strings are steel. They sell separate packs of pure nickel strings. You can certainly check their website.

    Re: Can you teach musicality?

If you can define the elements that constitute 'musicality', it can be taught. If its wrapped up in 'talent', which itself appears fairly undefinable, then you're stuck where you are. You don't...

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

Well, as stated by Gary in post 24, he builds them to sell them, because folks order them, not ‘collective improved understanding.’ He’s not restoring anything. Clearly there’s a commercial benefit...

Re: Arm rest. Y or N?

They can elevate your wrist off the face, which can be good, and damage the finish, depending on the type of finish. I have a couple, but don't use them typically. That said, I have 2 mandolins...
  13. Re: Talk me out of replacing an ABS nut with a bone nut

Gibson Loars and others at the top end have MOP nuts. Playability is just setup. Tone is in the ear of the listener/player.

    Re: Electric Mandolin Build Help?

An octave mandolin would play and sound more like an electric guitar, so it depends on the genre(s) you want to play. The Bigsby electric mandolins I believe were all maple, but you could look at...

Re: Comfy in our new RV

Cool. Went last week for some socially distant jamming. A day and a half of rain didnít dampen the spirit but I burned 6 gallons of propane in my heater to make popup housed jamming comfortable.

They're still there. They used to run batches that sold out quickly, but they seemed to have ramped up production somewhat and now have picks available at all times.

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

Beautiful work as we always see from you, I'm sure with sound to match.

But the days of putting another's name on the peghead surely have passed, whatever the reason.

But it could be a Vessel...
  20. Re: How to Open a Vintage Guitar Store in Seven Easy Steps

Covid cancelled my Nashville trip for April, but we'll try again. I've been to another store there, years ago, and received the unfriendly treatment, not nasty, just unwelcoming. My buddies have...

    Re: 1930ís Stradolin I Bought

That should be a fun project. Seems odd to me that the top looks fine, but the back and sides (especially) seem quite worse for wear. Or sitting in a case.

Re: First attempt at heat bending: questions
