  1. Re: My wife has stored it for years,no markings I can see

Be sure to string it with extremely light strings. More will damage it.

    Re: DolaGard question

Bend the back leg that is in the lower pic so it is level with the guard. It is not in the correct place. I have had to bend these several times to fit instruments. Since you are only bending it to...

Re: Installing K&K Twin With Hide Glue

Dave, I was talking with Deiter at K&K years ago and was trying to find what would sound best for my mandolin. Seeing that I couldn't afford to buy a lot of mandolins and pickups I would put them in...

Re: Installing K&K Twin With Hide Glue

I have removed at least a dozen of them super glued without breaking one, the tape should be an easy removal.

Re: Installing K&K Twin With Hide Glue

I used the tape, but I glued the tape to the pickup, glued another piece of tape to that tape and glued that to the mandolin. Super glue gel is the preferred glue. I used the tape to take a little...
  8. Re: Anyone know of any nickel-free mando strings?

GHS is the same with the plain strings, they are a quality carbon steel. I would assume like Ernie Ball they are tin plated

Re: Four Finger Chop Chords and the Pain!

The muted string is the E. I fret for a G chord---4th fret on the G string, 5th fret on the D string, 2ond fret on the A string and mute the E. You can use a C chord the same way. Take the easy C...
  10. Re: Seeking vintage tenor guitar neck for a project

Saw a 6 string archtop neck on the bay for $34, you could always fill in two tuner holes and slim the neck.

Re: Four Finger Chop Chords and the Pain!

I like the sound I get from 3 finger chop chords better. They are also easier and move just as well. They are also much less fatiguing.

    Re: Block in-lays.

A lot would depend on the radius and the thickness of the pearl blocks. You would have a better chance with a slight radius and thicker blocks.

    Re: Humidity

CES yup humidity will do some weird things to instruments, never had it crack, but I guess it could happen. Sure makes a varnish finish a pain. Gets all sticky and easily damaged. My best mandolin...

    Re: 1930ís Stradolin I Bought

Yes in fact Joe Price and I were talking about Don last week. Joe used to come to National Guitars and play a show, have a few drinks and some food, when he was on tour. Sad how times change.

Re: string life with limited playing

I use pure nickel and they don't seem to oxidize or tarnish from playing. Like all strings they will get dents where they contact the frets. When I can feel the dents on the under side of the string,...

Re: Pickguard Reset on Weymann Bowlback

It was most likely hide glue to begin with, tho it was probably glued to the wood. Since it is not under any stress really it should be fine.

    Re: purchase for social distancing

We've been doing a couple of small farmers markets. A 6 foot jam with 3-5 folks. More than that and it gets hard to hear when keeping social distancing.
