Picked up a clean, well-preserved A model Flatiron, 1984 Carlson signed. It's the 2nd Flatiron I've owned, first was a 1985 F-5 Artist, also Carlson. Came with the original warranty card, imagine...

Somewhat curious as to how the case is the culprit. What kind of case was this? btw, I have a Northfield Recurve case I'll be putting up in the ads shortly. Good, lightweight, protective case.
The lovely and talented Lou Martin noted out a very faithful reading of Bill's playing on this tune, in an old Acoustic Musician. The up-front preamble is fun to read.
It's within this medley somewhere, I believe
Awesome to once again listen to the Master of Bluegrass take, from 1980, when Uncle Bill was nearing 70 years of age. He plays it four times through with power and finesse - no hand-off to any other...
To me, 4-part tune

Diff schools of thought on 'floating' pickguards. Charlie Derrington crafted this one; he was a firm believer in a side bracket, even on abbreviated guards.
Nice to see an old name come back to the fold.
Pick on...
Sad news, condolences to his family. Al custom built a marvelous case for my Loar F-5, complete with a requested face plate.
[QUOTE=mbruno;1733086]I've always been a fan of Steffey's version
Adam plays it beautifully here.
And post #7 is a diff tune.
Mandolin has good tone.
Some standouts:
His solo on Gentle On My Mind, off a 70's John Hartford record
His soloing on Berserkely, off a Mark O'Connor record
His solo on Great Balls Of Fire, 1st NGR record on Starday...
Old Ebeneezer Scrooge (what a great title) is the current jam.
Reading through this old post is bittersweet.
Case du jour, a Presto made for Duff mandolins. Very nice and certainly suitable for air/car/boat/train/car travel.
Well, that's a beauty.
Nice to see this triumvirate once again out and about. Matt will be at Camp Bibey next week, I've never had the pleasure of learning from him. Should be great.
No Woodstock, but my summer camp bunk won the clean bunk award and the prize was a show at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA. The line-up was The Who, Jefferson Airplane and B.B. King. This was a couple of...
Maybe pricing is regional, but here in the Piedmont of NC, $450 ain't no part of nuthin...
Yep, he was one of the later builders to still craft mandolins with The Gibson inlay in the headstock. His instruments sounded great, as does this one.
At a Louisville IBMA Loar-fest in the late 90's, Cliff was in attendance. Steve Gilchrist was speaking to a group of Loar owners. All of a sudden, we heard a loud clatter in the back. Cliff had...
Regardless of the strings, that's a great sounding mandolin!
Well-deserved win. Good run on a good mandolin on a challenging number.
And a shout-out to the 2nd place winner, Vince Bullins. Vince is undergoing some physical challenges right now which make...
The II Generation Rome black LP (RLP 1117) is super cool and VERY period-based, complete with a Neil Young song (Old Man), a Beatles number (Hide Your Love Away), Love Is Blue. A couple of the breaks...
What Ralph says. Everybody's hand, physiology is diff, but the general thrust is that. A crazy exercise I 'used to do' is to take pick in hand and raise it above my head. Then, gently swoop it down...
Hey Steve,
Hope to catch up at IBMA once again and check out your wonderful craft.
