I hope I am not giving you a glimpse into the future regarding the binding but here is a picture of what my 70's era head stock looked like when I first acquired this mandolin about 18 years ago....

I am not left handed but once helped a left handed friend convert his A style Ibenez mando to leftie. The 2 areas of most concern are the bridge saddle and the nut. They will be mirror images of...
Jonathan Mann uses DiMarzio dual blade humbucker pickups that have a single coil pickup footprint. Just another option...

Me too, it was $15 plus another $6 or $7 for the shipping. At ~ $22 total it is a great bag!!

I've posted these pix in other speed neck related threads so here they are again. :))

It took a bit of effort to scrape the thick and sticky black paint off this 70's era Gibson...
Do you want it to sound like an acoustic or an electric mandolin? Big difference imo

I can't imagine that you would have to update the firmware very frequently, if at all. It should come with Fender's latest firmware. I don't have a Mustang GT40. I have a Super Champ X2 with USB...
Typically you should make truss rod adjustments in smaller increments, like 1/4 to 1/2 turn then let it settle in for awhile. Sounds like you took up a lot of slack with that adjustment. If you...
At one extreme yes, it helps address buzzing issues. At the opposite extreme, it helps address a stiff feel to the strings' play ability, once any contributing nut slot and bridge height parameters...
You could try altering the pitch of the triangular pieces of wood and also the angles on the base of the saddle that sits atop the triangular pieces. There are plenty of plan B's here.

"Making deeper string depths on the bridge" is not an ideal solution to a high saddle. You can introduce string buzzing if the slots are cut too deep. It's better to reseat the base of the bridge or...
That's the "default" setting on the digital camera. The owner neglected to set the actual date/time.

I am a big fan of the D'A EFW-74 strings on my 1916 F-4. Bearing in mind that the F-4 has a longer scale length than the Martin (13 7/8" vs. 13"), they do have a much "softer" feel than the EFT-74...
I vote for one of each ;)

Check for any changes in the neck relief. You may need just a little adjusting of the truss rod. It's that time of year with cooler weather, warming systems running, lower humidity, etc. Try it with...
If I remember correctly, there were a couple of more "Rat Packers", Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. Coincidentally, Joey Bishop was also a mandolin player though I've never heard any recordings by...
Thanks for the heads up Aaron for those of us who were not aware of Jarod's skills as a mandolinist and singer/songwriter. Good stuff indeed!!!

That is absolutely gorgeous!!! What is the scale, 20 inches? Good luck and happy playing that Heiden OM.

Beautiful, yes but at $7K retail, may be out of the OP's price range.

Um, not quite Sean. That Breedlove does not qualify as a "most beautiful" candidate imho. Sorry! ;) Getting back to the OP's question, there doesn't seem to be much available in F Style oval hole...
If you want it to be (at least) semi-permanent, I don't think velcro is gonna cut it. Unless of course, if you play very lightly, it could work but mandolin is meant to be spanked every now and then....
At $1095 it's a bit too rich for my wallet. $500-600 for a "name" bowl back mandolin is more like it.

My experience with Stiver mandolins is more from a listener's perspective. At our Wednesday night jam, a guy brings along his Stiver A model and to my ears, (especially compared to my 1956 Gibson...
That would be the late, great Paul Hostetter (sp?). Frank Ford also has tuner care pages at Frets.com. I think it would be very cool cleaned up and set up with new strings. Enjoy!!
Len B....
Yes, take the strings off and clean that thing up......and wear rubber gloves ;)
