Re: All of My 2020 Festivals Have Been Cancelled

Yep. Very sad. Our band has cancelled all gigs starting back with our favorite StPaddys day gig. Our last performance was the Friday night prior to St Paddys. I really don't see any gigging for the...

    Re: Ultra low action

I like it really low. But it takes more effort tweaking to keep it there and I get lazy. Not as low as it used to be. Still my blue chip CT55 is a snug fit under strings at 12th fret.

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

Yep, you already did the most unbiased thing one can do in your presenting these video comparisons. Both great mandos - it just depends on what tone one is after. But there really is no better or...

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

My band got coronaized so I'm just playing to myself solo and I like the 'woofy" for that. So Josh gives me the Duff and you the Kimble and then we're both happy. Problem solved!

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

Thats a tuffie. Not sure if I could make a meaningful decision based on this... but... If I had to choose Id say I liked the Duff more. I might say the Duff for solo playing and the Kimble for a...

    Re: Blue chip picks

Practically speaking, I'd say if you are prone to loosing stuff, don't get one. If you can hold on to it then its really not much more expensive because it will outlast all the others. Divide the...

Re: Introduction and my new to me Gibson Fern

Harvey has sure overseen some great ones. I think his era will be highly regarded. I love my 2012 Harvey 5FG custom and I have played another Harvey signed Gibson that was equally strong. Im sure you...

Re: Eastman MD-315 vs Gibson Doyle Lawson

Not that it matters much to us, but the other thing about the Gibson compared to some of the less expensive mandolins, is that I think it is going to sound and play great for a hundred years or more....

Re: Changed back to nickel-silver frets

A fret is just a nut up the neck, right? Well, except it has no groves. But I would think if you believe nut material could have an effect on tone, then a fret material could also seem to. I've often...

    Re: Roadie-2 Tuner and Winder

Its probably just the bad jokes and dull company that keeps them away. ;)

Re: Are People Buying Less Mandolins Now?

I'd bet there is also a "stage Of Life" and "job sector" component to the Great Corona Slow Down. Those living on a guaranteed income (retired) are not effected if they're not infected (haha)....

Re: The virus, the economy, mandolins and you

Re: Breaking in or Opening Up

If your not sure you are in love with the tone of your new instrument, just keep playing it. You'll get used to it.

I do think there is a little something to aging of the wood/glue/soundboard. I...
