    Re: A request of builders

I don't doubt you Marty, but for the record a 1/4 of a mm is less than 1/64 of an inch........closer to but not quite 1/128th of an inch.....

but I guess we are on the subject of "fine tuning" a...

    Re: A request of builders

John is right, if somebody is paying $10K for an instrument, they are basically paying for perfection -- something the average builder cannot achieve. It should be beyond nice. Perfect as possible...

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

This part does not make sense. It should be about 10 seconds work to open it if you have the knowledge. Less if you have the right key....

    Re: Harmony H35 Mandolin Chicago

And a month later, the rent was due and he pawned the Gibson!

I interviewed a bunch of old obscure blues musicians and asked them about the instruments on their records covers and all had the same...

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

And, it should go without saying -- ONCE YOU GET A KEY FOR THE LOCK, UNLOCK IT AND LEAVE IT UNLOCKED AND NEVER USE IT AGAIN!!!!

I never understood what security people think they are buying with a...

Re: Bourgeois Guitars Partners with Eastman

FWIW, I was thinking of the 70's when Alvarez was promoting their "handmade, small shop, guitars made by master luthier K. Yairi in Japan" -- these guitars have held up well and still sound great...

  9. Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

I get some hate mail occasionally regarding my eBay prices.........they usually show up first thing in the morning and when I check the time they were posted it is usually 3:00am or so......you know,...

Re: Bourgeois Guitars Partners with Eastman

hmmmm......I have lived long enough that $3K is now what a "cheap" guitar costs.........:(:(

I better stick with the pawn shops and yard sales, I guess..........:crying:

    Re: 1919 gibson a3 #mandolin

You're right, and it's sad IMHO. I still long for those early days of vintage guitar collecting -- 35 years ago and before eBay -- I would see an instrument listed on Gruhn's monthly list, then...

    Re: 1919 gibson a3 #mandolin

A couple days ago the bidding was hovering around $260 and I thought I could get excited at that price.......

Today it is over $700 with no signs of stopping......with 11 hours to go......

    At...

Re: How To File A Fret

Sounds like you have the right idea. Just need to remove a little bit. I would mark the fret with a Sharpie just under the E strings. I leave it strung up and in tune. Take an emory board that...

    Re: Harmony H35 Mandolin Chicago

Harmony for many years was the largest manufacturer of guitars in the world. At one time, I had a gatefold record album from the 60's that was made for a stockholders meeting explaining the Harmony...

Re: Bass guitar stays quiet !!!

    Good advice above.

Always start with the most simple and work toward the complicated -- NOT, the other way around. Think of the lawnmower scene in the movie Slingblade -- "it's out of gas...."

If you search for Kay mandolin you will find similar ones. Kay is an old Chicago company, but this one is a later import.
