Re: I have a superton, what next?

The bridge would have most likely looked like this one. This is on a mandolin that my uncle got used in the 30's.

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

Howie has been a member here for years. It's a small world.

If that case was sitting here I probably could find one of a dozen old suitcase keys I have hoarded over the years that would open it.

    Re: F-Style Mandola progress

Hank, to be honest, it's the only one I've ever played. I like it but I have nothing to compare it to. It seems fine.

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

Hardware stores in the US like Home Depot have small brass mending plates. I would think they would be thin enough and easy enough to work with a hacksaw and a file to make that key. You might even...

    Re: Rubner tuners are back

Make sure the post spacing on the Pingwell's match the Rubner's. This pronouncement, in my mind, was a little premature. Rubner might be manufacturing again but it appears there is a very limited...

Re: Where to buy a case for a bowl back?

Yeah, but I don't know if they make bowlback cases.

    Re: Insomniacs? Asians?

I was celebrating my former wife's birthday and invited a whole bunch of friends for a party in the back room of the Cafe. Forgive me if I forgot to invite you, I meant to.

I'm willing to bet that the only part of that key that matters is inside this circle.

That's exactly what I expected that key to look like. Thanks Steve.

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

Ask this guy really nice if he could take a picture of the key for his case and send it to you. If you know what it looks like you know what you're looking for and with a file and a piece of steel...

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

Go to a second hand store or anywhere they sell used luggage. I've been to several where they have boxes of keys that you try until you find one. That's not a complex lock. Try a local antique shop...

Re: Where to buy a case for a bowl back?

A nice variety would be nice but not that I've seen.

Elderly. That one on the right looks pretty big. It appears that The Mandolin Store is out of the Eastman Bowlback cases. There's nothing I...

    Re: Mandolin ToneRite on guitar?

Probably a good number of people wonder the same. Give it a try it's certainly not going to hurt it unless you drop it on the top or something like that.

    Re: need help to identify

Turn of the century. Could be just before or just after. By 1896 it looks like the L&H branded Washburn's had gone to a different headstock shape but that doesn't mean they weren't using it on their...

NursingDaBlues made the statement in a thread above about working capital. It's very true. You need money to operate. Remaining profitable isn't always easy and making mistakes is. I know this from...

Yes, I was hoping one of the resident bowlback folks would be able to confirm a manufacturer based on the interior finish.

    Re: Strad-O-Lin Catalog Pages

And there is finally a catalog page showing that my Strad was known as a professional model. The gentleman selling one similar as such now has a page to prove it. I've never seen that page.

  24. Re: needing info on a swan mandolin who made it , is it any good

The tag appears to identify a music store (retailer) in France. I'm sure they had nothing to do with the manufacturer other than buying from their distributor.
