Re: What Do You Use for Editing Standard Notation

I've been using Finale Notepad (the free version) for years.
It's quirky and has limitations but it suits me fine.
Works on Win 7 don't know what else.

    Re: 1925 A4 cross posted

    That was beautiful.

I play a more simplified version of Ashokan Farewell and this one has inspired me to punch it up a bit.
  3. Re: looking for nylon string instrument 4 strings tuned in 5ths,

    https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/threads/148941-F-style-Ukulele

This recent thread is my experience with that.

In short, baritone ukes in CGDA work very well using classical guitar strings.

Re: Help with Martin Style 20 at GC Brooklyn

I didn't know the GC in Brooklyn was even open.

For the record I have never seen a vintage mandolin on display there, but if it's possible
I'll go there tomorrow (Sunday) and have a look.

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

    The Bottom Line

I’ve spent the last few days putting this instrument through the paces.
I am both happy and disappointed at the same time. This is an odd instrument.

    I would ordinarily keep...

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

I received my Bruce Wei F Style Baritone yesterday.

    Here are some basic facts:

It took four months from the OK to getting it in my hands.
    That's a long time IMO.
    But this was the first...
  8. Re: Complete Bach 1st Cello Suite - ukulele in 5ths tuning

Classical guitar strings work very well on a baritone (CGDA).
And there is a huge variety of options.
  9. Re: Complete Bach 1st Cello Suite - ukulele in 5ths tuning

    Well done.

I've been playing the Prelude on a baritone uke CGDA.
It's amazing how much tone you can get from those little boxes with a light touch.

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

    Just received these photos
I'm looking forward to playing this unique instrument.
When I receive it I'll spend some time with it and give an honest review.

  11. Re: Nylon GDAE tuning for an 8 string Baritone Ukulele

I use nylon guitar strings to get CGDA on my baritone Uke (same scale as yours).

I never tried GDAE but I think it's possible.

These have a high tension and feel great.

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

Still waiting for my F Style Baritone Uke. Almost two months now.

It's behind schedule, but there is a world wide pandemic going on after all.
    Hard to complain.

I asked Bruce to send me some...

2nd thumbs up for Strum Machine.

    Re: Hora Octave ?

    (subbed)
The mandola tuners are terrible also. I think they are the same hardware.

I replaced my bridge and it made a difference.

    It's not a bad instrument.

    Re: Shelter-in-place (NMC)

Surprisingly (to me) I'm practicing a lot. Mostly while watching Star Trek Voyager.

Man that Janeway was a bad a**!

    Then I eat a lot.

My neighborhood has a "Last Man On Earth" vibe to it so...

    Re: I Miss Playing Live!

Before the virus out break the weather was pretty nice here in NYC.
And I was able to get a few unexpected days of busking in Central Park in.

Now with the strict lock down I won't even try it....

    Beautiful.

I'm splitting my time between the Bach Prelude and a Vivaldi movement.

    Re: Feeling Octave Mando

I have a Feeling Mando guitar (F style 6 string).
It's well made for a cheap instrument. The wood is pretty good.
It sounds acceptable, no more than that.

    Hope that helps.

Re: Viola to mandolin or mandola
