Re: Are tenor guitars slightly evil?

Ha! I've not been called incongruous before!

No Rob, I don't have a pound sterling symbol on my keyboard.

Americans don't usually say cheers either Rob. Unless of course we're clanking a few...

Re: Are tenor guitars slightly evil?

    Okay Rob, here's another:

My first tenor guitar was a Harmony Stella H929TG. It was in fairly good condition - I paid $50 for it, then had some luthier work done for another $55. It came back to...

    New Tenor

Finally got this wrapped up last night. I've had it 90% done for sometime but been doing final tweeking on it and learning to play it for the last month or so. 23" scale, Almuse soap bar pickups,...

The one Fox listed is unusual in that it has two pickups and a toggle switch, I don't think I have seen that before.

Re: How much will it sell for?

Looks fantastic. I have been wanting a hollow body electric tenor for a while now. I keep coming back to this too: https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/153329#153329

    They're quite similar.
  10. Re: DGBE (Chicago) Tuning: A and Bb/A# chords are weird

The problem is fretted instruments are designed for 12 tone equal temperament tuning. If you sweeten it for a certain chord or key center, then it is off when playing in other keys.

    Tuning by...
  11. Re: DGBE (Chicago) Tuning: A and Bb/A# chords are weird

I’m going to ask the obvious question: are you using the same strings for Chicago tuning as you are for the GGDA? I tried that when I first got my tenor but the timbre of the instrument was off. I...
  12. Re: What is Today the best Tenor guitar between 500$ => under 100

Dang....I REALLY did not need to see that. I had asked Mule if they would consider it a couple years ago. They said no so I let it go. Until now. Jeeeez.
  13. Re: New and recent Tenor, best than vintage Martin's and Gibson ?

Well, that's what I keep telling myself, but maybe I'm just decrepit.
  14. Re: New and recent Tenor, best than vintage Martin's and Gibson ?

i can tell you that my '59 Martin o-18t is huge sound wise. I have a high end modern tenor (Mcilroy) which is lovely, but the martin has age and played-in-ness.

the O-18t has so much mojo - hard...
  15. Re: New and recent Tenor, best than vintage Martin's and Gibson ?

I have owned vintage Martin and Gibson tenors over the years. Early Gibson tenors can sound very sweet and I loved the ones I owned. Later (1950's 1960's) not so much. At that time period they just...
  16. Re: What is Today the best Tenor guitar between 500$ => under 100

I am not afraid to do that myself...
I have some experience in this job...
I would be (when I will have my instrument used or new) interested to follow your idea...

  17. Re: Advantage and disadvantage of the Cutaway on Tenor guitar ?

Cutaways are, in theory, for people who use the really high frets, but I will bet only a small percentage of people with cutaway acoustic guitars actually do that. So it's more a cosmetic thing for...
  18. Re: Bought Blueridge 40-T half price on Amazon -Can't find any is

$685 down to $330, coupled with the fact that you can barely find one anywhere in the US right now. Feeling very lucky, which is rare for me.
  19. A not inexpensive way to try the tenor guitar

Anyone else see this incredible electric Rickenbacker tenor with matching amp from 1934 on eBay for the low low price of half a million smackeroos?

Re: Nylon strings on Blueridge BR40T?

I'm not sure how you'll be able to use nylon strings since the bridge is made for ball end strings. I strum my steel string guitar and tenor with my fingers. I think you just need to get used to it....

    Re: Gold tone vs Ibanez

For a new ENTRY LEVEL guitar, the all laminate Ibanez PFT2 is the hands down winner at $200. The yet to be released Recording King may give it competition.

The Gold Tone tenors are at another...

    Couldn't agreed with fox more.

Your initial 12-15-22-30 CGDA looked something like this:

You can see it is not very balanced. A bit heavy on the high side and floppy on the low.

    Re: GDAD tuning

A real mix. I sometimes feel standard tuning is less creative (for me, in my head only!!) when writing.
