All the more reason to regularly take them out of the case! :mandosmiley:
I'd sell it. It should be in a museum or the hands of a much-more-talented musician than I. Then I'd use the money to buy a whole truckload of less-collectible musical equipment.
Try it yourself. If your local music store doesn't carry a variety of fancy picks, there are a couple pick samplers making the rounds, with everything from freebie plastic picks to NASA material...
I don't know what some of you folks are talking about, that was the most Monroe-like, traditional-bluegrass-mandolin thing I've ever heard Chris Thile play.

Sampler #1 is now on its way to Mattslouch across the Atlantic! Matt, I'll send you a PM later today after work with tracking numbers and all that business. Also will type up my thoughts on the...
Hey folks. Things have been a bit hectic with holidays and gigs and festivals, but I'm getting ready to ship sampler 1. Went out and purchased some more of those pages with pockets in them to hold...
So I've had them on my flatiron for a couple weeks now, for a couple jams and rehearsals and a festival. They sound great. Different fundamentals and harmonics than J74s, more "scooped" sounding,...
What sort of pick are you using? If you're using a thin, flexible pick, that might be contributing to why you are having to attack the string so deeply that you are hitting a scooped extension. A...
Sampler has arrived!
If you have shops nearby that carry mandolins, why not head out and do some taste testing?
I'm so excited! I happen to have taken the entire next week off work so will be plenty of time for picking picking picks.
Really cool, but I wish they'd mixed the mandolin a bit higher. Can barely even hear him play.
Most of the ones I'd recommend have been said, but I'd definitely add Homer & Jethro - Playing it Straight/It Ain't Necessarily Square, probably my favorite album to listen to lately
Really cool comparison. The non-virzi has more what I'd call "howl", low midrange which makes for a more pronounced "plunk" in chops and notes. More noticeable when he was playing the G monroe...
Since a the next couple guys said it's okay, I'll go ahead and hop back in line after Roger Moss. Sent him a PM with my contact info. So the sampler #1 order currently goes:
Roger Moss

If you heard me practicing you'd think my mandolin was named "dammit." :))
Anyone have objections to me hopping in line behind Roger? I don't mind going to the end of the line if necessary, my fault I didn't respond right away... but was looking forward to giving the picks...
I replied today, 3 days after you sent the PM.
But since you already sent them, I guess put me back on the list somewhere.
Man, I have them sitting on my shelf in their pretty black and gold packaging and am really excited to try them, but I have a set of EXP74's on and they just aren't wearing out (and as expensive as...

This is getting worrisome, two months have passed. Does anyone know how to get a hold of hossamassey outside of this forum?

"bark" - a chop cord sounds loud and abrupt, like the sound a dog makes. It's a midrange "pop" that projects. Basically, saying that the mandolin is loud and has some harmonic in its tonal...
