Sounds interesting….
Well that’s a bit different, but just as enjoyable as ever. Thanks for posting.

Magnus,
So how does the volume on your 4 strings compare to your previous 8 strings? Did you have to adjust your build or is it basically the same construction you used previously?

Hi,
I’ve always wondered in terms of acoustic mandolin what is the effect of eight strings versus four in terms of volume. I’m not a physicist, but intrinsically feel that an eight string mandolin...
Hi,
Sounds great from another player I’d never heard of. There’s 4 tracks from the CD on YouTube if folks want to sample it.

Hi,
Don’t know much about this guy, but his YouTube videos are always excellent. Basically jazz on 5 string….

Thanks for posting. Excellent, as always.

Heard Hommage Till En Spelman on a classical radio program a few weeks ago and have been learning it. It’s a Swedish fiddle tune by Torbjorn Nasbom and have been using his recording with Josefina...
Hi,
They are all free when they first go up, so you could have listened to them all for no charge. He only switches to selling them after they’ve been up for some months.

I’m surprised these podcasts have not been discussed more. I’ve enjoyed them all.
Maybe folks don’t know about them.

Hi,
Don’t really hear one as better than the other. They both sound good mandolins. As always it’s subjective, I would go with the one, YOU think is best.

Hi,
I presume that it’s not just the nut that’s wider, but also the neck. Then smaller production runs, hence higher costs. The increase in cost being down to overhead costs, rather than material....
Kevin,
Thanks for posting. Was that Cathal McConnell I spotted playing quietly in the shadows? Does not look any different than the last time I saw him 20 years ago when I lived in Edinburgh. I...
Hi,
Yes, Twoodfrd ( Ted Woodford ), the Canadian luthier and repair man, on YouTube tested them on his channel a few weeks ago and said he was impressed. Great channel if you’re interested in...
Hi,
That left hand must be feeling better Frank.

Hi,
I think the UK market for mandolins is quiet just now and of course it’s always been pretty small. I’ve advertised a few instruments recently at what I thought was a fair price and had few...
Hi Ray,
Sounds like you’ve got the light ones. They are 9 - 30. I use the mediums which are 10 - 32 with black binding, and heavies which are 11 - 34 with green binding.
Only used the lights...
What a great video. Particularly liked the instrumental tunes, but it was all good.

Hi,
Put a wanted ad in the classifieds here. Try and be specific and say what you want in terms of flattop/archtop, f hole/oval hole, price range, etc.

Hi,
Tombigbee Waltz is one of my favourites. A lot of people tend to think it’s about a person, but it’s about a river in Alabama. Mike Compton does a great version.

Davy,
Nice tailpiece. Looks good and easy to use. Don’t know why more luthiers don’t choose to use that type. Must be the Gibson influence.

Hi,
Yes, the same idea had crossed my mind given that there were an array of guitar and mandolin albums. However the ornamentation on the mandolin playing was such that I discounted the idea, but...
Hi,
Further on the subject, he’s well represented on YouTube if you want to do a search.
Cheers,
Hi,
It’s funny because I was going to ask who he was. Did not find out anything about him, not even nationality.
I was interested because I’ve been using his album Cozy Morning Mandolin to...
