Re: Bluegrass Mandolin Teacher in Orange County CA

Evan Anderson is a great teacher and may still be in the Orange County vicinity. He was with the Bluegrass band Wild Oats many years ago and later with The Andy Rau Band. I'm sorry that I do not have...

    Re: Northfield Recurve or Hiscox?

The Hiscox is hands down the better of the two IMO. Steve Mead's comment above is a wise one.....that used Hiscox is a good deal, if still available. I hope that they once again begin selling their...

Re: Northfield Model A or Silverangel Econo A?

Nothing against Northfield, however I agree with Amandalyn: Silverangel's unique, deep voice combined with that tone and playability makes it the better value.

Re: Anyone got a ToneRite i could borrow?

Acknowledging the risk of negative feedback from ToneRite® owners/users, here goes:

1 each small aquarium air pump (less tubing)
1 small rectangle of thin felt (to be placed between pump and...

Re: Bill Monroe & Gibson F5 Sales Question

rcc56 and Allen made some great comments above! I will add that I too chased around for an F-5 in the 70's, only to find woefully substandard Gibsons from the 50's and 60's and no affordable newer...

    Re: Mandolin Case Cover?

I'll bet that my friend Dana from Music Caravan still has a few Climate Case covers hanging around. These work quite well with most of the contoured F-shaped hard cases out there:

Kevin--In my experience, the NBs last longer and sound slightly better on my mandolins than PBs.

  15. Re: A little taste of Take Five at the end of music practice ...

    Very nice playing!

Please note that while "Take Five" is probably the most popular piece of music associated with Dave Brubeck's ensembles through the years, it is a Paul Desmond composition.

I believe they're trying to mix it up by playing "something for everyone", however their adherence to the "top 40" style programming is hugely annoying. Fortunately, there are many choices on Sirius,...

  22. Re: Northfield Airloom Deluxe case 2.0 - what was improved?

    For our OP:

How about a Hiscox case? May take a while to obtain, however it is oblong, very protective, and not a great deal of money.
