How do you put the violin under your chin with a bow-tie on your neck?
I can't even play wearing a regular tie.
  5. Re: A likely contentious opinion on electric mandolins

I play 5 string electric mandolin BECAUSE it has an "electric guitar-like" sound. Its useful to be able to play that sound, [and it has its own tradition of fantastic playing: Tiny Moore, Johnny...

    Re: beside the mandolin.

    Banjo Mandolin.
I actually won a first place "Banjo Other" category in a contest playing a choro piece.
The neck was warped like a cereal bowl ;) Its now detached so I'm not tempted to play it.

Re: If You Don't Perform In Public....

Why do people want anything they desire? Even if you aren't a performer, why not have a high quality mandolin if you can afford it? I think we should allow people to do that. :disbelief:

    Odd Ebay Mandolin Picture

    Alternate cases for bowlbacks?

I'd like to adapt a sax or horn etc case to hold a bowl back mandolin.

Memorize a piece of music. I used to perform written music, but
found a deeper connection when playing from memory.
  14. Pasillo: Campanas by Adolfo Mejia [Trio Colombita]

This isn't played by a mandolin, but the sound is close.
Its one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard.
[After 2:45, it detours to other themes I don't find as interesting]

    Re: Today's Rig

I liked the blend of octave mandolin and guitar on your video. Unique sound.
If you have a recording of your electric rig I'd be interested to hear it.

Re: Washburn "New Model" tuners & strings

This got resolved in an interesting way. I mentioned looking for period tuners to a
banjo playing friend. He had used a mandolin banjo pot to make a frailing banjo,
and had no use for the tuners....
