  1. Re: mando in $300 price range for Italian songs

Find an old bowl back or flat back Mandolin. A great visual to go with the music. And most of them sell below the $300 range. My father-in-law’s Mayflower bowl back (or “tater bud” ) Mandolin would...

Re: Advice needed for this seam separation

I’d find a good luthier close that has Mandolin experience. Not just a guitar repair tech. Letting it go could lead to that “one day”, when because of heat/cold/too humid/too dry and pow!!! :crying:

Re: How to repari this broken head stock ?

If you’ve carved a complete neck, the scarfed in wafer should be easy. Getting the measurement of the material you remove from the neck and headstock to get them flat and smooth. And both at the same...

Love it when the experts jump in. I had pictured in my mind about the “wafer”, just didn’t know how to explain it in condensed enuff form to get the idea across. Thanks! Easier I guess to tell...

Re: How to repari this broken head stock ?

    A new neck.

It will never go back together right with the one part sanded. And if you sand the neck, fit up will be worse.

And epoxy will never hold it.

    Re: Bridge "leaning" toward peghead

Don't need to change the notches. Just leave the strings a little loose and stand the bridge up. Then retighten.

Re: Opinion on strings for Godin A8

Well since you are a musician, you can do this. Me, I just play music. Would take a good book with chord diagrams and a couple months to play in a different tuning for me.

Re: Noob question: Nut and bridge

NO!!!! Well the nut, some Iíve read, put just a small drop or two. But the bridge, it needs to be able to adjust to set the intonation. Mandolin and violin family instrument bridges are held in place...

Great. Enjoy the the little beast. I have 3 other mandolins. But my Godin is the workhorse. Use it every Sunday unless the song set like a few weeks ago had 2 mandocello songs and 3 cello songs in it.

Sorry I didn’t measure it. Sandpaper that was under originally was folded twice. So three layers of the paper. Just eyeballing the foil, was about twice that thick.

Ovation had a cheaper mandolins/Guitar labeled under the “Applause” brand. Post a picture of the serial/model number That would help tremendously for someone here to date/identify it for you.
