Re: Billy Strings new album - Home

The album release shows in Portland were great. Billy is great about mixing it up. It can be all out psychedelic madness one tune and straight forward bluegrass the next.

One from the recent batch is available at Greg Boyd's. I believe this was built specifically to be sold at Greg's. NFI, just throwing this out there...

Re: NMD: Howard Morris A-4 #430

Congrats! Sonny makes a helluva mandolin. I have had #393 for about 18 months. I just got a new Ruhland 2 weeks ago and the Morris is still staying. In my opinion there isn't anything close in value...

    Re: Eastman 315 MD & Loar LM-520

I have played them both and owned a 520 for a while. While plenty will disagree, I much preferred The Loar 520. It was more traditional sounding which I like. Maybe I got a good one, but it only...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

I brought #41 home today. I will post a comprehensive review and sound clip later, but this mandolin is great! Less than a week old, it is loud, balanced, with very clear bell like noting.

Re: Looking for a GOOD flat top mandolin

Howard Morris builds a very nice affordable flat top. You get customization options with him as well. I believe there may be 1 or 2 in the classifieds directly from him.

Re: for people who don't have deep pockets.

Howard Morris builds a wonderful mandolin. His A5's are $995 new. I would characterize them as Gibson-esque, but definitely having their own tonal identity. Very dry and woody (with great low end) as...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

I believe you are correct. He had made 7 mandolins with the batch my top came from; all "absolutely sonic". I could have had adi, Engelmann, old bridge sitka... when he told me about the piece he...

I don't know exactly where it came from, but it is the last 1 piece Sitka top from a batch of wood he has been using for a while now. I do know it is not from the decommissioned bridge.
