Re: Some very fine Nancy Blake mandolin

I think the applause was just a spontaneous burst of joy at hearing what she played.

Remember Nancy's mandolin strap that was a string of tiny little skulls?

Got a video of "Planet Riders"...

Re: Some very fine Nancy Blake mandolin

Nancy has been a musical inspiration to me for a long time.

I saw them play in Milledgeville,Ga. one night and was able to meet them and played "Sage Fields" on my mando for them.

Re: D'Addario EXP 75 vs. EXPCM?

Yep. I'm a D'Addario snob, sort of. Monels do it for me.

I have some Curt Magnuns to try but they are Monel too.

Still have some old(er)EXP sets left over. May need them down this old road.
  4. Re: String suggestion for Flatiron Performer/Festival series

After a lot of years trying out different mandolin strings I tend to believe that, overall,on a variety of mandolins,
D'Addario Monel strings are hard to beat.

    Sure,some mandos prefer something...

Nancy Blake has been inspirational to me in making music an integral part of my life.
  8. Re: D'Addario's new Chris Thile signature mandolin pick

Like a lot of others I have tried a running cornucopia of picks, changed my mind about some of them over time, gone back
and forth on what I prefer.

Re: Your Thoughts On D'Addario XT Strings

I tried the XT set,but was already solidly hooked on Daddario monels. Standard gauge for me so far. May try the Bush gauges
at some pont. Their monel strings check all the boxes for what I want.

    Re: Need mando advice

Your short list sounds like a good one.

Play as many mandolins as you can. Do road trips to get to them if necessary.

Choose the one that speaks to you personally and is most playable. Do basic...

    Re: It's a habit, I can't help myself

There must be some kind of inflationary movement in the mandolin world in last couple years. Not too many "deals" to be had.
Although the variety and quality seems plentiful.
