    Re: poor quality or MAS?

Good advice. Or just one at a time, that's how I like to do it.

    Re: Fretwire and slot help?

I put Evo wire on one of my mandolins a while ago, l like it a lot. My mandolin has nickel hardware, never noticed any problem in looks, but then I wasn't looking for it either. It is all about sound...

    Re: V joint question

A violin, while it doesn't look like it is still a dovetail joint. It is smaller, and the button helps support it, but it is tapered the same as a dovetail.

    Re: neck strip

A two piece neck is plenty strong. The strip, as far as I am concerned, is bling. Some old mandolins would have been better without the center strip. It was dyed wood that is deterioration, making it...

Re: Mandolin will not stay in tune

Well you are playing an hour a day for 3 months, I would say put some new strings on.

    Re: poor quality or MAS?

Most of these mandolins have the nut cut way too high and would explain what the OP is experiencing. A good setup should remedy the problem. A better mandolin is a better remedy.

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

Can't you drive to a park for a walk? Is there somewhere that you can go near your luthier for walk, or maybe he/she would meet you there.

    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

You can thin it if it will make it fit better. I like it snug, but not to have to force it too hard. With glue on, HHG is my preference, it should clamp and hold.

    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

Jim, if the heel button closes hard it most likely will not stay. I prefer to make a shim and glue that in so it's not trying to pull itself apart.

    Re: Fretboard repair/install HELP?

Like rcc56 I use locating pins too. You could always pin it on the neck, scrape the binding close, then fret and glue it on. Final fitting to the neck would be minimal then.
  14. Re: Fixing up a cheap case - is 3M spray adhesive a bad idea?

I have foam, simply wrapped with a blue paper shop towel, in a case to take up some slack. No glue, not as convenient as you need to adjust once in a while, but it keeps the foam separated from the...

    Re: External jacks on resos?

Sorry Charlie, I read resonator and thought guitar. I think that would work on a reso mandolin. They usually use a mandola chin rest clamp and it should go out that far. Haven't played a reso...

I don't remember, not unusual for me, your price range but this seem like a great deal to me. Hand made and decent price.
