    Re: Bending a cast tailpiece

I have used a wedge to change the angle and it can work very well. The suggestion to find longer screws is a good.

    Re: A4 back side repair

It may be just me, but it looks like the end pin has been pushed way in t o the tapered hole. I wonder if the tailback is split. Something looks odd to me.

    Re: Mohawk lacquer

That is very hard lacquer. It was a royal pain to remove. Scraped a good bit of it. I steamed out the neck and removed the bridge. Have the body at 80 grit. Hope to re-stain today. I understand why...

Re: Post a picture of what's on your bench?

Thanks Skip, yes I slotted it. 22 inch scale. I've only done 3 of these. I now have a request for an F model. The A model fits in longer tenor banjo cases.
Charley, it is a lefty. I'm pleased that...

    Re: Mohawk lacquer

I mix my shellac from flakes but that's a thought. I just ordered their instrument lacquer. I'm hoping that will solve it. I had ordered the wrong product. This old brain ain't what it used to be.

    Re: Mohawk lacquer

Just typed the number on the Mohawk site. Furniture finish. I assumed my sales rep would know Bryce Instruments would want lacquer for instruments. My bad. Homework 1st, place order 2nd.

It's the M610 10-25807 clear lacquer. Possibly the wrong kind.

    Re: Mohawk lacquer

Thanks to all. I do get a moisture in my air lines but have traps and try to stay on top of it.
I'm glad to hear the lacquer is more than likely ok.

    Mohawk lacquer

Do any of you builders use Mohawk lacquer?
    Have you bought any recently?
I've been using Mohawk stains in my shop for years. A month or so ago I thought I'd try their lacquer as well.
    I've...

Re: crooked endpin hole on Eastman 505

Pretty bad looking ending hole. I can't tell if it's tapered. If you can get a pin to stay in it I guess it's OK. Not sure about the shavings or the gunk ont the tailpiece.

    Re: Is it worth repairing?

Bracewood is cheap. I'd not use wood that wasn't properly sealed and seasoned for braces. You'd hate to have to open it up again down the road.

Seems the last time I dealt with fisheye I sanded as usual and gave it a coat of shellac. The next coat of lacquer was fine .
