    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

Well, at only ~2300 booths at NAMM, I'm sure it was a bit beyond overwhelming, even if the mandocentric part was way less than 5%. For an enthusiast, its was fun to see and speculate:)

    Re: Tone Dexter users?

Of course not. It’ll be another option for players who need a solution to the volume problem, either to play natural or with any variety of synth sounds. I think the jam band group will like this...

    Re: Introducing the Sorensen VX

While I like book matched the best to show the symmetry, that one piece back has a very good balance and shows excellently as well.

    Wouldn't be disappointed with either.

    Re: Banjo solos /mandolin

If you're trying to emulate somebody, listen to their music. If not, do as you please.

For your young fiddler, I'd suggest listening to older fiddlers, Kenny Baker, Chubby Wise or Vassar Clements...

    Re: help with tuners

Usually disassembling them in place and cleaning/lubricating is the first step. Then check how they turn with no string tension. Then make a decision as to how to proceed.

    Re: Tone Dexter users?

This thread, the piezo and preamp threads as well, will probably all be impacted if Zeta gets traction with its new mandolins.

    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

Re Zeta. Interesting that their website doesn’t contain upgraded info from the 2016 instruments. Not clear if those are available or that the new model is. Presumably since Elderly has signed on,...

    Re: Picks

Some very good players use the pencil grip. Brian Oberlin comes to mind as one.
  10. Re: “one announcement we're privy to that will rock the industry”

    That’d be Zeta’s groundbreaking part.

    Re: Position playing or shifting?

Interesting observation. I think part of it is related to hand size, some players can reach a long way without using a pinky and therefore don't develop a lot of dexterity and strength there. But I...

I don't understand all this discussion about different picks. I'm happy with the 19 different ones I have in front of me.

Of course, should I become fickle, there's a lot more in the pick box in...
